| Something in my dog's ear! | | | | I woke up this morning to find my dog shaking his head constantly and favoring his right ear. Apart from this he is acting normal, but I cannot find anything in his ear. I looked down it with flashlight and cleaned the surface with a q-tip and nothing. I can't afford to have a vet check it out, so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to get rid of the obstruction because it must be done far as, again, I can't see it. | | | | | | | | | | Puppy Loves A Deal Pet stores, doggy day care& more regularly featured at 50-90% off! www.Groupon.com/Sign-Up

| | Are you suer it's an obstruction? Mahbe it's something as easy as ear mites. One thing you might try is this.... take a few drops of baby oil and drip it down in your dog's ear. Before he shakes his head, rub the ear by the skull together to work the oil way down. Jump back quick when you let him go or you'll end up wearing oil. After a few hours, carefully take a q-tip and clean the ear. Especially if you see any 'dirt'. Our cats do the same thing alot. I do the oil treatment and clean and they're fine. The oil smothers the mites and helps 'wash' them to the outside of the ear. Hope this helps! :) | | | | | | | | tcycharmy (75)

| | I'm actually not sure what it is. The reason I think it is an obstruction is that it happened all of a sudden in the middle of the night. I'm going to try your advice anyways. I thank your for your response and I hope all works out well. | | | | busyB4 (791)

| | Sometimes them shaking their head can be from allergies. My dog does that when the humidity is up and he gets moisture in his ears. I take a makup round little pad and wipe them out and he will feel so much better. Then the vet has told me how clean his ears stay. They can also get a fungus in their ear if there is mositure in there. Does his ears have a smell?? | | | | | | | Puppy Loves A Deal Pet stores, doggy day care & more regularly featured at 50-90% off! www.Groupon.com/Sign-Up | add comment | | | |

| | You have been given good advice here already & exactly the things I was going to say! In addition to putting a small amount of baby oil in your dog's ear, if it is a large dog, I find it better to wipe the ear out with a cotton ball. I do this with my german shepherd & it works great. I have an ear wash solution that I bought from our vet. And smelling the ear is another good thing to do. If there is a foul odor coming from the dog's ear, there is an infection & it will need to go to the vet for medicine. Please keep us informed on how your dog is doing! | | | | | | | | | | Everything About Dogs All Dog Breed Profiles Filled With The Information You Need About Dogs www.DogChannel.com | add comment | | | |
