do you/would you raise your kids in English? |
|
I thought about it and I think I wouldn't - I know learning English is important in life because it brings with it great opportunities. However, that's what schools are for - and since my primary tongue is Filipino then it would be most effective for me to raise a kid in Filipino and teach English as a secondary language instead.
I thought about this last night and ended up writing about it too. http://thingswelovetohate.blogspot.com/2009/04/would-you-instruct-your-kids-in-english.html

English could be learned in school anyway.=D

3. rymebristol (1645) | 10 months ago | yes, i would like to raise my kids in English as early as they know how to speak but still i will encourage them to speak Tagalog which is our primary language. if kids are able to learn English early on in their lives, they will surely be more competitive and it'll boost their self-esteem.

4. hlldelight (120) | 10 months ago | Mother tongue goes first. Addional, child can learn more than one language. As far as i know, learning another language is helpful in exploring brain. So i would raise my kid in both mother tongue and english.

Not only because English is an international language and it can provide my kids with more opportunities, but also because I love English very much.I like speaking English and I am planning to go to English-speaking countries when I gets older. So learning English will be a must for my children .

9. zandi458 (6058) | 10 months ago | My kids speaks english since they were small as their nanny only speaks english. I found it useful as english is not taken seriously in schools here and my kids were at an advantage when they are in the workforce as they are working for international firms and the medium of communication are all in english.

10. MariaD (2394) | 10 months ago | I do not have my own kid yet. But I am thinking that it would depend on who I end up marrying, like when my better half would be a foreigner, like that and where the kids would be raised. I would love to raise our future children as learning how to speak and write fluently both English (or other foreign language) and my native tongue, Filipino.
As kids, our parents raised us speaking in Tagalog at home. We basically learned English from school, media and privileges of travelling. My thinking is that when I am with fellow Filipinos and in the country, I'd prefer to converse in Filipino. I'd only relate with somebody in English when needed, like foreigners or for business purposes or in other countries.
