Pullin' Them Suckers Out...

As some of you know I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my teeth. I need several pulled and had one abscessed. Lots of pain and agony…thankfully it’s getting better and I get to have it pulled in a few days. My stepdad has pulled several of his own teeth when they’ve gotten too bad. I don’t know if it’s b/c he doesn’t like needles, prefers to do it himself or just doesn’t want to spend the money. He’ll just yank it out with a pair of pliers. I could never do that…I have a very low threshold of pain…the littlest thing hurts me. Maybe he has soft gums or something. I know that while I’ve been hurting I’ve thought more than once about doing it myself just to end the pain but I’m too chicken and it’s a tooth right next to my front teeth so I don’t want to mess up my sinus’ or break it off. Have you ever pulled your own teeth? Would you if need be? Do you know anyone that does? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Other than pulling baby teeth no, never have I pulled a permanent tooth and it does sound very painful. I also have at times thought about it when I did have a toothache but I don't have the guts to do it, now maybe if it was fixing to fall out then I might. LOL

Hi there twoey68 What a painful discussion! LOL. I have never pulled my own tooth as I am very much like you - a chicken - and would never be able to pull my own teeth! My ex boyfriend claimed that he pulled his own tooth out but whether he actually did or not, I don't really know!

My husband pulled all his teeth himself he would work them looser until they would fall out. He never used a pair of pliers to full any of them. I have pulled 3 of my own. It is painful only when you first do it. I never used pliers either, but worked them looser. He does have alot of sinus problems though...But if someone can afford to see a dentist then I would say do it. Pulling ones teeth isn't as safe as having a doctor do it and he can prescribe pills needed to keep the infection down.. I used peroxide and would swish my mouth with it several times a day it helped me alot.Well, good luck.

That sounds so painful to pull your own teeth out, I can't see how some people do it. I myself would rather have the dentist do it, so that way if anything goes wrong they can fix it right there, and plus they can give me some pain medicine, I have a low tolerance for pain also, you wouldn't think so with all the things I've been through..haha. I know this one guy that pulls his teeth out, he said he was going to pull all of them out so he can get dentures, what he does is drink a shot of whiskey before he does it, I guess it numbs the pain, I don't know, I've never tried it..ha.

My eyes are bugging out just thinking about it! I have had 2 teeth pulled with no meds before because I was pregnant at the time and novicaine was not safe to give me while pregnant. And like you I have thought about pulling my own teeth to end the pain. But no I would never actually do it. There are too many things that could go wrong. My biggest fear is that instead of pulling the tooth, I'd break it which would make the pain worse, and I'd have to try to explain to the dentist why I tried to pull my own tooth! Not worth it!

Please go to a dentist and find out if you can pay off the debt in installments. He may be able to save your teeth - even the abscessed one. I could never pull my teeth - couldn't pull the baby teeth either. I am not brave enough to do it - and besides it could lead to a whole loy of complications. Infection has to be treated first with antibiotics before the Dentist can make a decision in your best interest. It is always better to try and save yoiur teeth. Take care, my friend

i am so sorry that your teeth have been hurting you. I also have a low pain threshold and hate going to the dentist. Could your dentist just put you to sleep so that you do not feel anything when he works upon your teeth? I used to have a dentist who did that for me. He is a really good dentist and a terrific guy.

i can't-not only do i have thick roots, they're what they call "wraparound". basically impossible to extract yourself without breaking off the root-then i'd have a whole new bunch of problems.i have had some i would have pulled if i could though. flaring up at 3 am when the doctor's out. my brother's pulled out a couple of his own that shattered, piece by piece. he must have different roots than i do.i don't know how he does it

I have never pulled my own teeth, and do not think I could. My husband pulled a few of his,but he had a gum disease that made them easy to come out.

I had a friend that would do that and I always thought it was bizarre. He was in a class of his own anyway. Not only does it seem as if it would be very painful but the chance of infection seemed pretty likely. I don't know....I wouldn't be able to do it. Well, twoeye, I hope you get this problem taken care of and are soon out of pain. I have had a toothache before and I know how horrible it can be. It is also very costly. When I had my toothache, I took on an extra job for a week and worked in complete agony just to pay the dentist as he would not help me without cash up front. not fun times.

I can sympathize with your pain. I had really bad teeth. Rotted easily, abscessed, and in general were a threat to not only my sanity, but to my health as well. I couldn't pull my own teeth. The roots all had hooks and spoons on them, and If I'd pulled one myself it would have left the root behind and caused even more problems. My ex and both of his parents pulled most of their own teeth. The teeth would get loose, probably from gum disease, and they'd just pull them.

You stepdad is nuts! I'm surprised when he pulled he own teeth he didn't get any infections or other problems! That is to stupid and dangerous! For you, please keep seeing your dentist and get those tooth pulled! I never had any of my teeth pulled my own teeth and I not insane enough to do it! My dad did try once when I was a kid to pull a baby tooth! He tried a pilers and the tooth didn't want to come! It came out on its own not long after that!

I haven't pulled my own teeth twoey , nor would I unless things were extremely desperate. It is not just the pain involved but the fact that things could go very wrong in trying to pull them that would stop me! xxx

Hi twoey68! Oh my, your stepdad is very brave! I can never pull my own teeth. Maybe even if the tooth is already getting weak on its hold in the gum or it is really moving, I just can't do it on my own. I might do more damage on the nerves or whatever, I just don't have the courage to do it. I need the anesthesia to numb me from the pain! LOL! Take care and God Bless! lovelots..faith

I guess if I had to I would, but speaking of teeth the college has final year student that are graduating this May. And, they are taking patients now for $15.00. You get a check-up and x-ray's and cleaning and all for just $15.00. And, there is two professional dentist right there with them. I am getting my check-up tomorrow. I like it and so does all my friends that have gone there. You might want to look into it and see if they will pull your tooth for $15.00 and do all the other work too. You can't beat the price or the work. Hope you feel better soon! **Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life**
