You cannot spend your way out of a recession or borrow your way out of debt..... |
| |
| I was watching the news the other day and came across a story of a Parliament member that was chastizing the Prime Minister of Britain. His name is Daniel Hannan and I must confess that whoever he is...he's hit the nail on the head when it comes to pork barrel spending....even if it's not our country. His speech is below....see what you think about it and tell me....would you like to tell your president this? Would you like to see more or less Danniel Hannans? The part of the speech I liked best is in my title line..... 'Prime Minister, I see you've already mastered the essential craft of the European politician: namely the ability to say one thing in this chamber and a very different thing to your home electorate. You've spoken here of free trade, and amen to that. Who would have guessed, listening to you just now, that you were the author of the phrase 'British jobs for British workers,' and that you have subsidised - where you have not nationalised outright - swaths of our economy, including the car industry and many of the banks. Perhaps you would have more moral authority in this House if your actions matched your words, and perhaps more legitimacy in the councils of the world if the United Kingdom were not sailing into this recession in the worst condition of any G20 country. The truth, Prime Minister, is that you have run out of our money. The country as a whole is now in negative equity. Every British child is now born owing around £20,000. Servicing the interest on that debt is going to cost more than educating the child. Now, once again today, you have tried to spread the blame around. You spoke about an international recession, an international crisis. Well, it's true that we are sailing together into the squalls but not every vessel in the convoy is in the same dilapidated condition. Other ships used the good years to caulk their hulls and clear their rigging - in other words, to pay off debt. But you used the good years to raise borrowing yet further. As a consequence, under your captaincy, our hull is pressed deep into the waterline under the accumulated weight of your debt. We are now running a deficit that touches 10 per cent of GDP, an almost unbelievable figure - more than Pakistan, more than Hungary; countries where the IMF has already been called in. It's not just that you are not apologising - like everyone else I've long accepted that you are pathologically incapable of accepting responsibility for these things - it's that you are carrying on wilfully worsening our situation, wantonly spending what little we have left. In the last year 100,000 private sector jobs have been lost and yet you have created 30,000 public sector jobs. Prime Minister, you cannot carry on forever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecedented engorgement of the unproductive bit. You cannot spend your way out of a recession or borrow your way out of debt. And when you repeat, in that wooden and perfunctory way, that our situation is better than others, that we are well placed to weather the storm, I have to tell you, you sound like a Brezhnev era apparatchik giving the party line. You know and we know and you know that we know that it's nonsense. Everyone knows that Britain is worse off than any other country as we go into these hard times. The IMF has said so. The European Commission has said so. The markets say so, which is why the pound has lost a third of its value. In a few months, the voters will have their chance to say so, too. They can see what the markets have seen: that you are the devalued Prime Minister of a devalued Government.' What'ya think.....any thoughts? | | | | | |

| | He is absolutely right. If this is the same guy I am thinking about, he had some interesting things to say about the US policies as well under this already failed administration.... namely that we are not far behind the UK in our situation as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItUPB7nJZbc The things he says are very relevant to us as well. Government needs to butt out and let the markets work unhindered. They would correct themselves, and do it much faster than all of this government interference and spending. | | | | | | |

| | i can't believe the sums of money governments are risking nowadays. it's like running a household, even if you are making the payments, one good catastrophic event is all it's gonna take to wipe you out financially. like the USA-with all these trillions going out,can you imagine if another katrina hit?and they still haven't fixed everything they should down there yet. | | | | | | |

| | I wish our politicians were just half as smart as This Daniel Hannan seems to be. Any one that makes a living knows that you can't spend your way out debt. In my opinion that is what got us into the trouble we are in today. We as a nation have gotten us into this mess by spending money we don't have and the only way out is to stop spending and start saving. I wish our own government could see that. But since it's not their money why should they. This stimulus package just looks good on paper. | | | | | | |

| | Hi hornswaggled... I love seeing this video - it gets better every single time! I absolutely agree with him and don't want any more debt piled on top of my house and family. We are hard working people who work for ourselves - in other words we work in order to do things for ourselves. We don't sit back and let others work for us. We are constantly trying to improve our lives and that means working more. The government is currently expanding the benefits given to people who abuse the system. I'm tired of it and called my local representative to say so! | | | | | | |

| | Good for you Dee! I wish more people would quit just b***** and actually say something to someone who might make a difference. I think the problem is that they don't think it WILL make a difference...and how sad is that.... | | | |

| | Ok... from a British point of view, a lot of what Dan Hannan says is well thought out and probably appears to be the best option for the British people. He is European Member of Parliament for my area of England, so, I should support him totally... BUT... This is not the only "demeaning" speach he's made in parliament. In fact, he's a Conservative, and he's slating off his own party leader. Why, I don't know because they haven't been in the driving seat for long, and on every turn, or issue, he brings them down. So much so, that in the end, a lot of the British public shut their ears to him and vote Labour or Liberal! If only he sorted out our European issues a bit better, then we might have better standing in the European Market, but he's failed to do that. If you want me to be perfectly honest, I think he'd like to be PM himself, so he'll attack any Conservative Party Leader. It would be interesting to see him secure the role and to see what his policies would be. I live for that moment, in fact, because I believe he's just out there to create a "people's friend" of a prospective Prime Minister. He's no different from any of the others whom he name-calls, and I'm not a great lover of the man. It looks to me as though unrest is being caused by these speeches of Hannan's, and although I'm all for honesty and being upfront with people, I would like him to "prove" his support for the British people. Brightest Blessings, my friend. | | | | | | |

| | thanks so much for the valuable information friend! I am not a Brit so I am not in a position to see this so thank you! I agree...if he really IS for the British people he actually needs to show his alliance to them. Thanks again! | | | |

| | You're welcome, my friend. It's just the way I see things. If the guy has no alliance to members and leaders of his own party, then I doubt he'll do much for the public's interests. He's interesting... I'll give you that. He seems to have the know-how but will put down his own to get to the top and that isn't what we need... we need alliance between the governing party's members. | | | |

| | And he actually is what we need....someone who will say it like it is. I would be more inclined to vote for someone that says the truth. Now whether he actually IS telling the truth or just being melodramatic is for Brits to decide.....we don't know the situation. I just know that if someone from either party or an independent party said what he said here in the states we'd all be making him our newest president! | | | |
