What to do about Piracy

What should be done about the pirates and how should they be handled. I cam across an interesting term "hostis humani generis" which is a legal pharse which roughly means they are putting themselves out side the accepted laws and behavior of humanity. They have renounced the benefits of law and society and their crimes are crimes against all humanity. It becomes the duty of all nations to fight against them and punish them where every they are. Some legal experts hold that the pirates have no legal standing and no legal rights. They are people without rights and according to some a Capitan of a ship that is attacked and successfully defeates the pirates could hold a court and if found guilty could excute them on the spot. In the last attempt to clean up pirates in the Medetrain Sea it was the US that lead the way and the French who finished by capturing what is now Algeria to put an end to the piracy. The rest of the world was willing to pay tribute to them for safe passage. Today it is the French and the US that are fighting back. I say wipe them out and excute them all. Make the price so high that they will not want ot attempt it agian. If it takes sending in a battle ship to bombard the cities then that is what has to be done.

I would agree with what you are saying but I am going to guess, that like terrorists, I don't think they value life, that of their own to the people they are capturing. I think we should do whatever is necessary to end this kind of activity. But I don't feel we should have to do it all. It seems like the world depends on us to take care of things, then b*tch when we do it and take control.

It seems that the French are taking it to the pirates. The attacked a Mother Ship and captured 11 pirates. I think the US should start to board some of the ships if they suspect it is a pirate ship. If we can find the home port then land troops and eliminate the problem. But if we do it should be with the full force of the US military. No little raide and becareful you don't offend someone. Go after the orginizers and hold them to a higher standard than the pirates. If people have been killed by the pirates then they should be excuted. Tell the people of world that enough is enough and this will end even if it means war.

A good place to start would be by allowing these ships to have armed crews while in international waters. Currently, they are not allowed to be armed, and the pirates know this, that is why they are so successful at it. If these crews had the means to shoot back and defend themselves, these pirates would be a lot less likely to ply their trade. Just as an armed America is a much safer America, armed cargo vessels would be much safer from the threat of piracy.
