| | OMG, you really can't ask that question if it's important, because it IS!!! Let me tell you how important it is that you never miss one. 4 years ago I missed one, it was almost the biggest mistake of my life. When I got mine done the next year, it resulted in an abnormal result which, upon further investigation, showed cancerous growth. I'd already suffered from the STD that is the leading cause of cervical cancer, but had been treated for it. Despite that, I still had to have treatment done. The treatment to burn off the cells left me without a s*x drive. This is a problem that I will have looked at this summer when I go for my next checkup. So the importance of not missing this should be clear to you now. Had I missed it a second time, I may not have been so lucky, and probably would have needed more intense treatment to get rid of it. I'm not in the clear, I never will be since this has happened. But I get my tests done every other year since I've been told that it's all I need to do for now, unless I get another abnormal result again. So please, put your shyness away for the time being and get this done when you're advised to. | | | | | | |

| | I know it's embarrassing, but it could save your life, so you need to definitely get this done yearly or every 2 years. | | | |

| | I had my first pap smear about to years ago, and I was pretty nervous before the exam, because I had heard that it was very painful. But that was very far from the truth, I could hardly feel anything at all and it was over really fast. My next exam will take place in about a year I think. I know people who have skipped the exam, because they were too shy to get it done or too scared of the pain, and I understand that feeling because I very nervous before I had it done for the first time, but I think it is very important to get it done. If there is something wrong it is better to find out early. | | | | | | |

| | I can't think of any woman who enjoys a pap smear, but they are necessary. I do not like tham at all mself, but one that I had detected abnormal cells on my cervix. I ended up having a biopsy done, and let me tell you, a pap smear is a walk in the park in comparison to that. Thankfully, the cells were not pre-cancer or cancer and over time, they just went away on their own. It was a scary time for me, and for a year after that, I had to have a pap every three months. Having the test done is very important. It can detect problems before we know they exist, and therefore, stop something serious from progressing. | | | | | | |

| | I had my first about 10yrs ago. They are scary when you don't completly know what to expect. Ya know the sentiment of "your going to stick what??? where??" But 3 kids later I don't mind it so much it all depends on the hands doing it some are gentle to the point you don't notice, others are not as gentle and you may not feel as relaxed. I have a nurse practioner and she tells you exactly what she's doing as she's doing it and makes you feel very comfortable withthe whole proceedure. | | | | | | |
