flash drive or cd's???  email this discussion to a friend?

Well, my superior ask me where should we put away our school files stored in a computer (sort of to make it a back-up in case something goes wrong with the pc) and still make it readily available for future reference. I am thinking of putting all the files in a Flash Drive (removable drive) and keep it in safe place but I am also contemplating about putting it in cd's.
If you were to decide, should I put it in cd's or flash drive. Please let me know your opinion, thanks in advance!

I made a decision to buy a removable drive (160G) finally last week.i think it is not secutity enough that many useful and very important data store in the computer.once computer broken all the data is lost,it will be a very horror.i can not allow it happen. So i back up my all data in the removable drive .
Before i bought removable drive ,i always burn my very important data on the Cd.but Cd always has a capacity of 700M which is small. If i back up all data it request many Cds.To be honest Cd is more stable than removable drive .

it is not possible to keep so much amount of data in cd's but if u have a dvd writer than it can be done on a dvd , well because dvd's r more reliable for storing data for a long time . but if u don't have a dvd writer then surely u will have to go for a flash drive .

Flash drives (external hard drives for larger storage capabilities) are smaller and easier to use. The Flash drives or external drives will save you time when transferring files and will cost you less in the long run as you won't have to pay for new CDs/DVDs or storage of additional CDs/DVDs. Don't forget the cost of the CD/DVD burner and software (if you pay for software wink). You also have to avoid scratching CDs/DVDs and cleaning may be necessary. CDs/DVDs are an outdated mode of storing data. Why don't you have at least one USB flash drive already? They are small and can easily fit into your pocket or on your keychain. Storage capacity is significant, upto 32GB models are available in my area. Cheers.

I do have flash drive but for personal use only and not for office files...however, I think I have to agree with you that purchasing a new flash drive for the office use is way affordable than buying many cd's

well, it would be nice to have lots of back ups. burn at least 3 cds so that you won't regret if one cd would belost. the disadvantage of storing it in flashdiscs is that this can be attacked by virus or will be hidden by viruses and you will have no way to recover it. worst, you need to reformat the flashdisc and lost your files.avoid crying a river of tears. by the way, are you a taecher?

the best option would be a portable hard drive. this will have as much space as needed to store around 500gb of info. it is compact and portable and can be pluged into most computers through a usb port

i would also say use the removable drive i have one of those a 160 GB external drive can store alot on it. if you put it on cd's you might have to worry about damage to the cd's then the information would be lost. i would surely recommend the external hard drive they are not too expensive and i really like the one i have i store alot of my extra files that i don't need taking up the main hard drive space on there and i can get to them whenever i need them usually put my mp3's or my video files for my player on that drive.

If you're keeping your school files so that you could later access it not so often, then I would advise you to burn it on a CD-R rather than use a flash drive. Saving your files on a flash drive could risk it from being infected with virus. But if you're going to access it frequently then flash drive is a good choice because of its portability. As the number of your school files increase why not opt for a CD-R. By using it your files can't be deleted accidentally compare to a CD-RW or flash drive. Better yet why not use DVD-R since you'll be able to store more compare to a CD-R.

I hope my advice would be of great help to you.

I think it is better to store your fileson a flash drive. I think it is more durable than cds. Cds are very prone to scratches and most of the time, these scratches damages your cds and the files in it. Flash drives on the other hand is more solid. Plus, you can update the files inside easily without trouble. I think it is more dynamic than a cd. If you can afford it, why not use both? Black cds are pretty cheap so if you're on a tight budget, you can use the cd at least for the mean time. Flash drives comes in larger capacity so you won't be needing a lot of it to store your files as they grow.
