Do you think Miss California should be penalized for her beliefs? |
|
Ok I just read a news article about the Miss America pageant and Miss California was the runner up because she was asked "Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same sex marriage Do you think every state should follow suit? why or why not?" and she said "Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. Um, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what in my country and, in my family believe marriage should be between a man and a woman. "No offense to anybody out there. But that's how I was raised and that's how I think that it should be between a man and a woman." and because on of the judges was gay (Perez Hilton)she was the runner up and the winner was Miss North Carolina. Do you think that was fair for her or do you agree with the judges?

I personally found it refreshing that someone gave their honest opinion even if someone else disagreed with it, wish our politicians could be like that.

3. Theresaaiza (1560) | 8 months ago | I think her answer wasn't offensive. She just said her opinion. She delivered it well. If the judges only looked at that aspect I think they are prejudice in that area. We can never expect all people to agree to each and everyone's opinion.
I admire her honesty and by not answering in favor of the judges just to win.

| specialkdub (46) | 8 months ago | I agree she didn't deserve to be treated like that we live in a world where you can"t say anything without offending someone and I don't think they should have asked that question.

Theresaaiza (1560) | 8 months ago | ...yes, and they shouldn't have thrown that question if they weren't ready for a different answer. I also don't like what I heard that after Miss Calif answered the question the crowd went booing! A person who boos shows that he is uncivilized and is not educated.

Theresaaiza (1560) | 8 months ago | I have never really seen the actual pageant. So far I only learned about it through the Yahoo news which I didn't really read intensely so I didn't know most of the details. But if those things were true, then I should think Perez Hilton didn't do his job as a judge who is supposed to be just in the first place.
You know what, the secret so that pro and anti's can be harmonious is to just respect each other's opinions and beliefs. Sad to say, respect was something that this judge and those who said 'boo' seemed to forget in that event.

4. saffrondreams (375) | 8 months ago | She shouldn't be penalized for her beliefs but has it crossed anyone's minds that she might've also been penalized for the way she delivered her answer? I wasn't offended by her answer and I thought that she was respectful but at the same time she didn't exactly sound like the most intelligent or coherent person. I mean, the woman called marriage between a man and a woman opposite marriage!
No, I don't think it was fair of Perez to have asked that question but at the same time, you have to be able to think on your feet. If you are in something that requires good PR to succeed (beauty pageants, politics, the entertainment industry, etc.), you have to look good and make sure that people like you. And that includes making sure that you don't offend the people who are judging you. A beauty pageant isn't the best avenue to honestly express your beliefs - be a writer or an activist instead if you want to do that. Being Miss America is all about public image. It may not be fair, but that's reality.
