How many do you have? |
|
I just received some spam that suggested that I should shop early for my "No 1 Mom". Now I appreciate that in these days of multiple marriages and relationships it is quite possible to have a number of women who have had "mom or mum" in their titles. But only one of them will be your birth mother (or adopted mother if that is your circumstance). That doesn't necessarily make her your favourite Mom/Mum of course. Who is your No 1 Mom/Mum - your birth mother or someone else?

1. James72 (6977) | 9 months ago | My Number 1 Mum is my birth Mother of course! (She gave birth to ME by the way and it wasn't the other way around) And she's not to be confused with that other person's Mother who is of course THEIR number 1 Mother. Same goes for all those other dudes and their opinions of their own Mothers as well. I think there's really no other option but to have a "Battle Royale" type event on Mother's Day itself and we'll crown the last standing Mother as the true and undisputed number 1. It does seem only fair and those spammers do deserve to be accurate once in a while.....

p1kef1sh (5763) | 9 months ago | For a moment I was concerned that the hormone treatment had been overdone James. The thought of you giving birth to your mother is too much to bear.
Handbags at dawn! I can see it now. The bunting, the neatly folded overcoats. Hats firmly pinned to their coiffeured heads. Mums do battle. Rolling pins secreted away in the bottom of the bags to add more weight. First round - family photos - "Here's little P1ke when he was just two months old". "Awww. But I'll see you and raise you one with James on his potty at 6 weeks. He was such a fast learner"!!! And so on and so forth. Henry VIII had his field of Gold - our Mums will have the Field of dashed dreams! LOL.

James72 (6977) | 9 months ago | I can see and feel the setting and atmosphere as we speak..... Kind of like the Colosseum in terms of crowds and arrangement, with screams of blood curdling rage from the Mother's intertwined with equally loud calls of "MILF, MILF, MILF" from the rampant young men watching in awe! (Directed at everyone's Mother but their own of course so as not to invoke the wrath of Oedipus!)

p1kef1sh (5763) | 9 months ago | MILF or MILK James? LOL. Beware the Ides of March - and save us from the flower of our youth wishing to deflower (again) the mothers of their friends.

p1kef1sh (5763) | 9 months ago | We used to have an Elsan Leif. But I think that was something different. Very wise to talk out loud in front of the dog. You don't want to confuse him. Why have a son and bark yourself is the question that I ask myself. There is nothing wong with being the village idiot. Many are called, but few are chosen! All hail to mothers everywhere - whoever they are! Woof Woof!

TLChimes (1690) | 9 months ago | Sounds perfect to me. I know many folks who have families just like yours. It's just as heart breaking when you have to let your "child" go, when they get hurt, when they are acting out. You still feel pride when they master... what ever... And I bet your "child's" parents (you) get just as mad at hearing stories of folks abusing their "children" like I do at hearing of folks abusing kids like mine.
Furbabies are just as important to some families.
And by the way... you can't be the village idiot... I have a shirt saying that's my job. Of course I love it when hubby steals it and wears it to work. I laugh my day away at what others must say.

fjaril (4702) | 9 months ago | well hi there TLCHIMES! thanks for your understanding.. yes I KNOW you DO!!!
So you are in the village of Detroit!! and I am sooo NOT near that, so that surely you don't mind if I leave you the Tshirt and title? Although there are moments when I realize I have earned the title if not at least am 'in the running'.. You know exactly what I mean, don't you?

4. scorpio19 (657) | 9 months ago | Hi p1kef1sh,
My "real" mum put me and my three sisters into care when I was a teenager, so because of that I've always had a difficult relationship with her, doesn't stop me loving her but I don't like her. I was fostered to a couple and they are still very much a part of my life and I don't know whether I strictly think automatically that she's my first mum but my children do think of them has their real grandparents because they have been the constant influence in their lives since they were born not my real mum.
| |
| |
|
|
p1kef1sh (5763) | 9 months ago | That's kind of what I meant this discussion to be about Scorpio. We may well call someone " Mum", but they are not necesarily the eron that we think of as being the proper holder of that title. Now I'm confusing myself!

5. bdugas (2479) | 9 months ago | Well, as my birth mother and I did not get along, I guess the only other person that I have looked to as a mom, was the landlord where I lived for so long. She was there for me no matter what I needed. In fact she was there for all that lived in her houses. She made sure you had a way to the doctor. She made sure you had the money to buy your medicine. Anything that a real mom would do for you. I love her and will always consider her the mom that I never had.

6. anonymili (2895) | 9 months ago | Erm yeah that is weird haha! It's just the wording of the spam I guess - the people who send out this crap are not exactly rocket scientists and don't often even speak English as their first language so they might have even been implying that you should buy a gift to show mum she's no.1 BUT who else would be your No 1 mum? A valid discussion and food for thought. I can imagine yes, if you had a birth mother and a foster mother or adoptive mother for whatever reason but generally the people I know who are adopted refer to their adoptive mother as their real mother and don't have a relationship with their birth mother who abandoned them at birth or a young age (whatever their reasons might have been). Personally I have one mum, my birth mum and even at this age if I found out she was not my birth mother, I would not consider anyone else as my mother as this is the one who's loved me and supported me my whole life and she's my best friend too!

p1kef1sh (5763) | 9 months ago | That's how I would be too. My Mum is my Mum and no matter what, the bond that I have with her isn't going to change.

7. TLChimes (1690) | 9 months ago | Dad married.... a lot.... Cathy, Maggie (sister cerrie), Maggie (sisters amy, michelle), Maggie (me), Mary (Kimberly), Carol, The*Itch, and didn't marry but has lived with for like 17 years - Sally.
Father's dad is so much simpler because Nathan didn't count.
*sigh*
Mom is Mom.... no tops, not fighting, just as it is.
But there are people I admire that get mom's day cards... just because the are great mom's.

8. mtdewgurl74 (10397) | 9 months ago | Actually some call their mother in laws mom/mum.. or god mothers that also.. and some like to get their grandmothers something to on mother's day. For me, my biological mom is my number one mom..You know I could just never bring myself to call my husbands mom,mom..I tried once and it just got stuck in the throat a bit and just never came out it felt soooo wrong..and my husband doesn't call my mother, mom or anything else but her real name. Maybe he didn't feel right doing it either.

mtdewgurl74 (10397) | 9 months ago | I wasn't so lucky to have any children. So I guess I will never know if I would have ended up calling her granny or not. She was a hard woman to try to love.
