Democrats repeating same mistake the Republicans Made? email this discussion to a friend?

The republicans in congress and senate lost in the last two elections because they got power hungry. They wasted money, put the country in debt and did not listen to the american people. They got arragent and power mad. They did not compromise and forced what they wanted through. It cost most of their jobs. The american public voted them out in HUGE numbers.

Well you would think the democrats in congress and sentae would look at that and learn a lesson. But they seem to making the same mistakes the republicans made when they had a majority. They are just as arrogent. Just a forceful as ramming what they want passed. They won't compromise. And they are not listening to the American public. They have already spent more in just the first 100 days of this new presidency than they did all 8 of Bush's two terms. This country is deeper in debt. They are on a HUGE power grab.

THis could mean in the next two elections they might find themselves in the same position as the Republicans. But sence the republicans have show themselves not be trusted with a super majority and the democrats have now proven themselves not to be trusted with a super majority.....what do we do?
I say third party.....or maybe make the congress and senate more equal in representation so they acutally have to work togther and act like adults to actually get things done.
Tell me what you think.

the democrats are just too optimistic. they believe they can accomplish everything since they control D.C.
obama wants to cut the national debt in half by the end of his 1st term.
i for one do not think that is possible, but i certainly hope they can do it

i dont think they shoudl get a 3rd party into congress. our government system was established to work a certain way. for one, our electoral college system promotes 2 national parties, becoming resistant to any 3rd party from entering. to just change the government requires congress vote and sate legislature vote. a change like that wont happen.

we have to live with the system we have right now. we need to work with the system. not just change it because it doesnt fit a certain perspective

The founding father never set up the two party system. Infact when it was formed they said it would "hurt this country". they hated it. Why because poeple will vote because the D or R besides a candidates name and not because they are the best person for the job.

"obama wants to cut the national debt in half by the end of his 1st term"

You're confusing deficit with debt. Cutting the debt in half is impossible. Obama plans to cut the deficit in half because he's already QUADRUPLED it. that way, in order to call it a success, he only has to finish with double the record deficit set by Bush.

"our government system was established to work a certain way. for one, our electoral college system promotes 2 national parties, becoming resistant to any 3rd party from entering."

That is NOT the way our government was designed. Early in our political system there were 4 viable parties. Over time though two rose to have more power than the rest. Washington himself opposed political parties because he predicted this would happen if they formed.

The fact of the matter is that there is little difference between either of the parties. Of course they have conflicts of ideals, but when it comes down to it, nothing really changes one way or another. Obamma is doing right now everything that Bush would have done had he had another term (hypothetically).

myLot reputation of 76/100. lilwonders456 (1930)   ranked 60 out of 6,400 in politics  9 months ago

yep. We are seeing Bush's third term. Which is what the American public did NOT want.

i don't agree because bush himself said all that can be done was done that things will have to fix themself when we know that will never happen things will never fix themselves if bush would not of gotten us in this mess then things would not be so bad, at least the stock market is going up again and it's been that way for a few days now, so i believe that things must get worse before they get better.

That's what I keep telling people. The worst part is that the democrats KNOW IT, and yet they think it's ok now since it's THEIR PARTY doing it. I'm both baffled and disgusted by the way their defense for everything is that "Bush did it too". This is the guy they called the worst president ever and now they want Obama to emulate him.

This really is the biggest chance any third party has ever had to emerge. I really hope to see libertarians make a dent in the two party rule. People from third parties really need to get a big leader to say "We can end this crap!". Either way I have no doubt that the Democrats will lose seats in the next election. The question is, will third parties gain seats instead of republicans?

Bush set the bar real low. Basically they will use the "Bush did it" excuse but back when Bush did it they were the very ones screaming bloody murder about it. But now that they are in control they are going to do it too. YOu would think they would want to set the bar higher than Bush....but they aren't. THey will only behave as well or as bad as we allow them to.

There is one problem with your argument, Democrats only did what they were elected to do, Republicans did what they were not elected to do. It is not the elected that is at fault but the electorate. It is no secret that Democrats believe that property does not belong to the individual but to the collective, but when Republicans started treating property, which does include money, like the Democrats the jig was up. A third party is fine if it can do better than third place. Winning is the only thing that matters during an election, coming second just means you were the first to lose. I am a member of a third party the U.S Libertarian party which our Presidential candidate Bob Barr got 0.4% of the vote. Yeah I would love it if Libertarians were the majority of the House, Senate, and The President, but we would have to have more than 0.4% of the vote to accomplish that.

myLot reputation of 76/100. lilwonders456 (1930)   ranked 60 out of 6,400 in politics  9 months ago

Well I think the republicans and democrats are doing you and all third parties a favor. A lot of people that got mad at the republicans behavior and voted for the dems are now mad at them. So they are looking for other places to look besides the two parties. It would be a great time to get the word out about the other options people's have.

Unfortuneatly lil, the problem is that most democrats will stay loyal to that stupid little letter "d" no matter what they do. We have already seen Obama and congress continue the same policies Bush used to wreck the country and constitution, the same things the Democrats RAILED against with him, in addiditon to a whole host of constitutional crimes of their own, and still they cling patheticly to that party.
It is curious however, I have seen few defending alot of this stuff and have seen almost NOTHING in the way of threads praising them, despite the lack of critisism from them, who knows, maybe there's hope, give em time and maybe they will eventualy wake up. I just hope it happens befoer the next round of elections.

myLot reputation of 51/100. Taskr36 (4649)   ranked 392 out of 6,400 in politics  9 months ago

I still say 2010 could be the year of the third parties. They all had better be getting their best candidates lined up. The democrats are proving right now that they are definitely not going to fix anything.

myLot reputation of 78/100. xfahctor (5604)   ranked 62 out of 6,400 in politics  9 months ago

I would have to agrea with you, I think 2010 could in fact be our year, all it is going to take now is for enough people to get behind a single party in many of the districts to support a candidate to opose the dems and repubs. I am already looking around from someone to Challenge Judd Gregg and Jean -I'm-a-flatlander-pretending-to-be-a-new hamshirite- Shaheen as well as a couple people to challenge the two represenatives. I haven't seen anyone yet but I hope at least the libertarians put up a viable candidate or even an independant, a REAL independant, not a democrat or republican wearing a letter "i"

All of the above. Give the third party the presidency & split the congress & senate equally. Plus make it easier for them to be removed from office if they get corrupt. We need true checks & balances.
