Have You Ever Switched Religions? |
|
According to a recent study, about half of all Americans have switched religions at least once. Reasons people give for changing their religion - or leaving religion altogether - include not thinking that their spiritual needs were being met, liking another faith more, or because they have changed their religious or moral beliefs. Life circumstances such as a marriage or a move also are cited.

1. Dugsmom (220) | 8 months ago | I've been to many different churches and have tried out MANY different religions. I never found what I was looking for and have given up on religion all together.

2. anotherxidentity (880) | 8 months ago | I haven't necessarily switched religions - but I did go from being a Christian to becoming an atheist.
For me the change was actually thinking about all the questions I had about the religion and finding the answers to them without having to listen to what was being preached around me. It was more of a time where instead of being socialized into a religion I decided to be myself for once about it.

3. Ozarkgirl (602) | 8 months ago | I have not switched my religion, but I have never found a church that fits my religion either. I am a christian, but I do not believe in the ways as any of the other churches do, and yes I have been to them ALL, but when my husband and voice our OPINION they begin to shun us at the church we are at. I do not like churches that do not let people voice and have their opinion, most churches want you to believe one way-their way or leave....

3SnuggleBunnies (3288) | 8 months ago | I agree with you there. My mom was treated that way when I was small so then she just decided not to even bother. Even not just the variations in what they preach but if you did or didn't have money you were treated differently. And I don't think that's the point of Church? Or am I wrong on that one?

Ozarkgirl (602) | 8 months ago | No you are not wrong, in fact it states that we are to tithe 10% of what we have to the Lord NOT THE CHURCH OR PREACHER!! And what is with the Preachers, in Jesus` day he preached and he was a carpenter too, just as other Preachers worked to a living and then Preached the Lord's word in addition to teach others because that was their calling NOT their JOB.

4. cristine3276 (686) | 8 months ago | I only switched religion once. I was a former Roman Catholic. When I accepted Christ as my personal Savior and Lord I joined an evangelical church. The new found christin faith does not conform anymore with Roman Catholic doctrines and traditions so I have to leave behind Roman Catholic church.

5. Jezebella (1310) | 8 months ago | I havent changed religions because I believe in what I believe for a reason. I am a Christian and there is nothing that can change that. Everyone has beliefs and sometimes they change, but mine hasn't.

7. 3SnuggleBunnies (3288) | 7 months ago | Not exactly. My mom felt shunned at churches she'd try to attend when I was little so she gave up finding a church to attend because we were poor and could not "keep up with the joneses". She didn't make me attend any sort of classes in our faith after her experiences when I was small. So I never thought much about it but I'm leaning to just being spiritual if anything at all. My hubby is the same way but religion except he was raised in a very very religous household with one parent who didn't practice what was preached. So we are both spiritual but just not commited to anyone faith or church.
