Since it is almost time to do my after the semester cleaning (kinda like spring cleaning but I base it on when I am not in school).
I was wondering where is the best place to start. I am thinking about starting in the bathrooms and go from there.
Where do you start your spring cleaning?

Hey! I have never started from bathroom because we try to make it as clean as possible every now and then.
Well, i would start from bedrooms. This is the place where most of dust enjoy working with each other. Under the bed or ahead of fan or etc.
Go for bedroom and then the lobby and then other bedroom and then lobby and go on until you finish all rooms in your house!

my husband and our two dogs, but I often have my mom come to visit for extended periods and I like the house to be almost spotless when she gets here.

It is true about keeping the bathrooms clean, I was thinking start with the easiest space, but your plan is also very good. I am going to do this next weekend so I appriciate all the commesnt from you and everyone. It is helping me to decide the best plan of action.

I dcided to let the laundry fairy do the laudry, he isn;t sleeping anyway. And I did clean the living room. My kitchen is happy (or happyer than normal so we are doing good there) I do on the other hand need to clean my spare room because I am expecting company and I doubt they want to sleep on the stuff I have piled in that room. Perhaps I can get all my books that you mentioned needed to be read in my closet so that I do not have to worry about them for a while.
I guess I could call my mom, but she has discovered mylot so she is probably working on her payout right about now.

I think your Mom would tell you never to hide books in the closet. It just means that she will have to take them out again when she has to help rebuild those shelves that fell down. As you know this time of year she will want to sleep on the couch anyway. No more wagon spokes as they will not hold up that weight in books. so you will need to use something like you auntie has at her house. Just so happens I know someone like you mom is going to bring you some.

I am trying a new thing this year. I am picking one thing to do each day. If I have a lot of time I might try a closet and if I am in a hurry I will do a drawer. I figure I will get a bunch of things done in a month. It might take me longer but I think I will be less stressed about going through the entire house.

I may do that after this one. I have so much pent up energy from school, I feel like all I have done since January is sit and study, I can't wait till 2:45 tommorrow when my last final starts. Today and tommorow I study and Friday when I get off work I am cleaning til I drop.
But I think that I will use your method starting in June, every day I will have a room that I pay extra attention to.
Have a great day!!

I try to never have to do the once a year heavy cleaning by staying on top of the cleaning every day. I have a chart and I try to keep up with cleaning everything on a routine basis. I hate to clean so it would be a nightmare if I had to do it all at once.

I always start my spring cleaning in the bedrooms. I take one at a time and go threw the closets and dressers to remove the clothing that doesn't fit my kids any longer. Then I go threw my daughters toys too. I always have a few piles~ one to throw away, one to give away and one to sell.
I always do the windows in that bedroom before I go onto the next one so that room is completely done.

Great idea, I always have a big trash can and a big box when I clean, so I can throw the trash away and have a box for items to "get out of my house" and give away. I have gotten rid of so many things that we do not use any more this way I have actually found my house again after years of horrible clutter.
And it is the only time I do not have to ask my husband to take out the trash, if he sees me cleaning he will come and check on the trash and take it out as often as I need, the same with the give away boxes, he will load them in the car for me.

I usually pick the rooms that will stay clean longer because once I get started, I do not like to backtrack. These rooms are the rooms that we spend the least amount of time in. When I get started in a room, I clean from the top down and the inside out. Inside out means inside of closets, cupboards, etc. From the top down means vacuuming and dusting and cleaning from the top of the room down to the floor. I like to make a list of each room and mark off as I go so that I have a sense of accomplishment and I do not miss anything.

I am big on lists also, I will put the things that I dislike the most so that after I have done it I can see it scratched off. Going through the closet is always on that list.
