When I was in elementary school, I went to my uncle's wedding. I caught the bouquet there. I was definitely not the next bride. I am sure there were tons of people who got married before me. I know that my sister and cousin both did!
I think your sister's friend is just being superstitious. Perhaps she should just have a little bit more confidence in herself. That may help her a lot in her quest for a relationship!
