Losing Weight: What Is The Most Challenging Thing? |
|
One thing we have to face when losing weight is that there is no easy way to go about with it.
For me, my biggest challenge is HUNGER. Not giving in to my hunger is one of the most difficult thing ever. I know that I should not let my hunger control me, but there are days when it's just so hard to eat until you're satisfied. It was especially hard during the first two weeks, particularly after working out. I do not like giving in to my hunger because this could result to binging. To this challenge, I make sure that I do not starve myself. I eat little meals during the day. It helps, big time.
How about you? What is the most challenging part of losing weight? How did you deal or how are you dealing with it?

1. derlilaStern (1294) | 9 months ago | Hunger has never been a problem in my weight loss quest. I make sure I eat enough foods so that I am not hungry. The trick to this is making sure you get enough protein and fiber! They both make you feel full and help you to feel full for a long time. To get enough fiber and still keep your calories low is easy - fruit is a great source! A tasty sweet snack that will help you stay full and doesnt have too many calories!
The hardest part for me has been the emotional battles. Not getting disappointed when I havent lost as much weight as I would like. Finding a balance between my normal activities and still getting enough exercise in. It has also been difficult to find things that I will be able to continue to do for the rest of my life so that I dont put the weight back on! It has been a several month battle so far - and I still about about 20 pounds to go. I just take it one day at a time and remind myself that I am stil moving in the right direction.
Physically, losing weight has been easy for me - as long as I can keep my motivation up and my disappointment down!

russso (1300) | 9 months ago | You can do it DerlilaStern. It may be a long battle, but what matters is that you're working hard on what you want. I'm sure that in the end, it will all be worth it. And yes, try not to be affected by disappointments. All the best to you...

2. daneg33 (1007) | 9 months ago | For me, it's the weekends. It seems like everyone wants to hang out and drink on the weekends, so it's hard to say "no, not me, I'm trying to watch my weight"... I usually try to limit myself, but sometimes I get carried away because I'm having far too much fun. Besides, what's horseback riding without beer? Anyway, hubby and I purchased a Wii fit, so we are going to use that every night, hopefully it will get us back on track. I also try to walk every day at lunchtime. It's hard to fight off the "hunger", but you can accomplish that by snacking on healthy stuff, not as exciting, I know, but carrot sticks, celery, basically any vegetable. Try to avoid carbs as much as possible - breads, pastries, muffins, stuff like that. The weight watcher's bread is pretty good and you can have twice as much if you really have to have bread.

russso (1300) | 9 months ago | I'm not too familiar with the weight watcher's bread. Where can I get this?
| |
|
|
daneg33 (1007) | 9 months ago | They sell it in some grocery stores, just check the bread section - or they may have another alternative. Light Rye bread is another good choice. Basically, one slice should be in the range of 60 calories.

|
russso (1300) | 9 months ago | Oh.... Seems like I know it, I just didn't know that it's called weight watcher's bread. Hahaha. Thanks for the info. Hey, did you know that you consume fewer calories as well when you don't eat the crust of the bread?

4. smileonstar (2349) | 9 months ago | My challenging is Motivation. About hunger is ok to me cuz I can stop eating but about motivation is totally weak. However, I never plan to loose weight cuz I already in shape. I used to gain weight during my college years but after I married and have two kids, I just dont know why I always loose weight. Especially right after I have a baby. Now, I weight 105lbs and wear size 0.

russso (1300) | 9 months ago | That is great! Wow. Your metabolism might be the reason why you're not gaining weight. It seems that you're happy with your current weight and dress size... so keep it up:)

5. tabsnlos (264) | 9 months ago | I lose weight mainly by a lot of working out! People say they don't have time...Make time. It can be soo much fun too. Find a good gym with friends and different classes. A tip with eating...Water! Drink a glass of water before you eat. Then eat a healthy yet satisfying meal. I really don't think anyone should do those ridiculous diets. You get that weight back eventually in some way shape or form.

| 7. juliesclicks (70) | 9 months ago | My weight has gone up and down on an 80-lb range my entire life. I have tried everything I ever heard advertised. I have spent hundreds of dollars on products that did not work. Hunger had a great deal to do with not being successful in my efforts. What did work for me, honestly, was Weight Watchers. I am 53 years old and I lost 26 pounds of Weight Watchers. And the biggest reason it worked for me was I was never hungry. I was never hungry because Weight Watchers taught me how to eat the right foods and stay satisfied. Seeing others who lost a lot of weight also motivated me. I know everyone says "Why should I pay for someone to tell me what kinds of foods to eat to lose weight? I already know that!" But they have hints and bits of information that can get you through anything like a buffet, reception, office dinner etc. by telling you how to eat the right foods there and be satisfied and full. Trust me, if I can lose weight at my age on Weight Watchers then anyone out there can. It costs less than $50 a month to go to weekly meetings.

8. Jenniferp (196) | 9 months ago | My biggest problem is hunger too! I really hate to have to watch everything that I eat. The big problem is what we eat, yeah, the diet stuff is not as tasty, but there are somethings that have came along way. The weight watchers stuff is really good, the eclair is awesome! If you diprive yourself, you will be more likely to fail for sure. I still have one day when I diet that I will allow myself what I want, I just don't go nuts;) Or if I do eat too much Italian, I make sure that I walk an extra lap the next day. It really does have to more of a lifestyle change, not just a few weeks of starvation. Good Luck!

russso (1300) | 9 months ago | Deprivation isn't really healthy. As you said, you are more likely to fail. It is good to set one day wherein you can eat the stuff that you like, but it is pertinent that they be eaten in moderation. Cheers to lifestyle change and goodluck too:)

9. berrys (606) | 9 months ago | for me is keeping away from simple sugars. just imagine your leaving your work area or going out for lunch and all of a sudden, there's an impromptu bake sale going on and their selling all sorts of delicious cupcakes and muffins all covered in sugary colorful icing and i just can't take my eyes off of them. i want one in my mouth but i can't indulge on it. so what i do is i never leave my office building! i eat in the building or i pack food from home. never leave!!!
| |
| |
|
|
russso (1300) | 9 months ago | Oh gosh. That IS hard. It's good that you manage not to leave your building. I hope your workmates aren't the type who eat every so often. In my last job, people ate every two hours, almost every two hours -- and these aren't just little snacks they're eating. I'm not sure if they eat breakfast before coming to work, but here's the "eating schedule":
08:00AM Breakfast @ the Caf 10:00AM Mid-Morning Snack 12:00PM Lunch 03:00PM Afternoon Snack 06:00PM Another Meal
For some the 6PM meal is their dinner, but others still have dinner when they get home. It's good if they're eating little meals, but they eat full meals each time. I have been tagged as "anti-social" before because I always beg off when they ask me to eat with them. Hahaha.

Anora_Eldorath (2609) | 9 months ago | Thanks for the BR. Just remember it's all about balance. You need enough protein in your diet to feed your lean muscle mass. You also need the proper carbs to create the right level of glucose in your system for your body to work. Every person is different. However, the food pyramid is a good starting point in terms of just an overview of what a proper balance looks like. Though, find out for yourself which foods cause you to gain weight, feel hungry, etc. Those foods that don't do that are the ones you want to eat more of. And yep, I still eat sweets. I just don't eat the full pan anymore lol. I find that if I keep the pantry stocked of those little treats I am having them only once a day. Good luck to you. Namaste-Anora
