Specter apologizes for supporting Coleman on Tuesday. I'll be a good democrat!   email this discussion to a friend?

And so ends his independence. Now that he's been stripped of his seniority by democrats he's ready to tow the party line and kiss the feet of Harry Reid, Al Franken, and anyone else with a "D" next to their name.

"Specter's comments came after an interview with the Times in which the Pennsylvania senator declared he is rooting for a Coleman win in the hotly-contested Senate race. "There is still time for the Minnesota court to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner," he told the magazine.

The Pennsylvania senator said he "misspoke" in an interview with the New York Times Tuesday when he voiced his support for GOP Sen. Norm Coleman, who is locked in a recount battle with Democratic challenger Al Franken in Minnesota.

"In the swirl of moving from one caucus to another, I have to get used to my new teammates," Specter told CQ Politics. "I'm ordinarily pretty correct in what I say. I've made a career of being precise. I conclusively misspoke."

This guy is a freaking joke. If you just look at voting records you'd see he should be best friends with Coleman. Both have an even 50/50 voting record and both have been Democrats and Republicans at some point. The fact is he's a coward who desperately wants to stay in power and is now willing to sell out completely to make his new party happy. He's a joke and he's everything that's wrong with politics today.

I think the word we are looking for to describe Senator Specter is milquetoast. An old word, but quite apt in this case to describe the character of this man.

The GOP is better off without him. I don't think the Dems really NEED another kowtowing suckup, but I guess one can't have too many "yes men" when one is trying to establish totalitarianism!

If anybody thought they were getting a "yes man" with Specter they should realize their mistake by now!

I don't know Annie. Supporting Coleman one day and then apologizing profusely for it the next? He certainly wasn't planning to be a yes man, but they've got him by the balls right now.

Some think it was his support of Coleman that caused them to strip him of his seniority. Now they are holding that seniority hostage until 2010 so they can reward him with it if he rubber stamps their agenda.

Either way his number one priority is getting reelected and if he has to spend the next year rubber stamping the democrats agenda to make that happen, I believe he will.

Everyone knows nobody who is, ever has been or ever will be a Democrat can never misspeak or be taken out of context. On the other hand, the evil liberals are always taking the poor pitiful Republicans out of context and twisting their words...lol!

Seriously, this is really, I don't know - "weird"? When I read what entire question had been, about Jewish Republicans being left in the Senate, I realized saying he'd Misspoken was a REAL stretch. I'm beginning to think he'll be less of a good Democrat as a Democrat than he was as a Republican.

What was taken out of context Annie? I read articles about this from three sources before posting and all of them gave the same direct quotes.

Either way I think it's very disappointing that he's officially changing his opinion on who he feels should win that election based solely on pleasing members of his new party. That is exactly what many thought he wouldn't do. He seemed to think he'd be free to stay moderate as a democrat, but their treatment of him this early on proves my claim that they don't tolerate moderates.

He and Coleman have almost identical voting records and both have been members of both parties at one time or another. He certainly doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would want a sick extremist like Franken to win.

I agree.

The democrat voters would be well advised to keep Spector's duplicity in mind come next election, for he would sell them out in a heartbeat if it was personally advantageous.

The democrats deserve everything this traitorous sleazeball does to them.
