Have you ever visited a life coach?  

I have a colleague who is a life coach in profession before. Seeing her deal with people made me believe that there's more to it than just generating income. But still, we can't take the fact that she is charging people for it. I tried searching the net for similar people who do this for a living and found a peculiar site instead. The author claims of being a life coach in training (or maybe this was just the title for the blog). I really liked the concept of her site being like an open bar wherein you can spill your hearts out and every viewer becomes a critic or a friend. It's a relatively new site but I'm definitely keeping that under my radar.

And to answer your question, I haven't been to one or got charged for similar services.

Being a Professional Life Coach myself, I think it is a very worthy investment of time and money. I have found that most life coaches are in it because they have a genuine interest in helping people. I do it part-time since I have young children at home.

Life coaches help you determine what you really want in life and then help you identify and overcome the obstacles. Alot of times, people cannot get past the obstacles because they have limiting beliefs or irrational fears - most of which they are not even conscious of. Consider the following example: I was coaching a lady that wanted to start her own business. In one of our sessions, we determined that an appropriate course of action would be to place some ads in the paper. Upon meeting with her in our next session, she told me that she hadn't done it. Anyway, long story short, we found out that she was so afraid of failure that she was not able to take any sort of action. I helped her be able to deal with her fear and challenge her beliefs about herself. She finally did take some action and was successfull at starting and running her business. She is still in business today and does well. She does not meet with me on an ongoing basis. She will call me every once in a while maybe two or three times a year when she has a problem that she doesn't feel like she can deal with and I will help her through it. The goal of life coaching not to have a long-term relationship with clients but to teach people to "coach" themselves. This is where the right kind of coach gets great satisfaction.
