weight loss and tone up |
|
I am trying to lose a little bit of weight and to tone up a bit too, I have worked out my BMI and my weight is at the top end of healthy (borderline overweight), I would like my weight/BMI to be in the middle of the healthy weight category, I don't want to go to a gym as I don't like them, I have a stepper which I do at home a lot, which is toning my legs a bit, my stomach needs toning up a bit. does anyone know of any good excercises I could do to tone it up? what home excercise equipment do you recoment for calorie burning. Has anyone lost weight recently, what things did you do to lose the weight?

Secondly, as far as home equipment- I recommend the WII. I know that sounds funny, but it is less expensive than gym equipment and there are some great active games that make you sweat and you have fun at the same time. WII Fitness is fun and it does really have alot of great tips and hints. My kids and I play it together. You can't beat that with expensive equipment!
Also walking. I had a friend who had health issues and the doctor told him to walk everyday if he wanted to stay alive, basically. He lost so much weight in the first couple months that he looks fabulous! He walks now for fun. Not miles, just around the block. You can do little things, like park further out at a store and walk the stairs instead of an elevator.
Just don't beat yourself up on the BMI. Look in the mirror and judge it that way. Judge by what you family sees in you. Find an honest friend.. Then walk with that friend lol.

| sam4mumu (76) | 8 months ago | Thanks for your response, I have been thinking about a WII for a while now, looks so much fun, might have to save and invest in one, I am a good size, I don't look overweight but I do feel it a little, my job is quite energetic, I do a lot of walking about carrying heavy things. The BMI thing came about from a health and fitness project for a keyskills qualification through work, they are not interested in weight and stuff they just want to look at the keyskills side of it, converting from stone to pounds, formula, writing skills etc...I think my main reason for weight and toning up is I want to feel fitter because I do feel unfit even though I am doing a lot of walking about etc...I will definately want to look into the WII, thanks again!

Buzzman007 (202) | 8 months ago | WII fitness is more a "get you moving kind of thing" it gets you moving if you are a "coutchpotato". We have a WII at my house...But it was more my girlfriend intressed in the yoga part. But I see here still using it from time to time. Got the thing last cristmas. So the yoga part must be somewhat desent...she not a yoga everyday type person but she does it from time to time at home, read a book or too about it. I have not tried all the diffrent funktions on it but the the best one for loosing weight is the running part in it. But as I do my running outside i don´t do it on the wii just no and the mostly for fun...
Also if you are in to toning your body the streangth part of it seem useless to me (i not a expert here but i know have practised a little)

Buzzman007 (202) | 8 months ago | I also se no point with the "balace test" games and whatnot...But i suppose if you can do them between the "harder" exercices on the wii to rest

2. derlilaStern (1294) | 8 months ago | Two great inexpensive things to get for home use are a stability ball (also called balance ball) and resistance band. I bought them together in a package at D ick's Sporting Goods. The brand I bought was Gaiam. They make 3 different sized balls so you will have one appropriate for your height. The package also included a DVD of exercises. They have it divided into 3 different categories: upper body, lower body, and core. The whole package was only about $25. (I dont remember exactly, I bought a couple of other things too and had a coupon!) I am a member of Sparkpeople.com. They have many great resources as well. They can help you track calories intake and exercise. There are tons of great articles to help you with whatever you need. They have tons of different exercises that they show you how to do. Sparkpeople has a YouTube channel for various workout videos! They are completely free and you can do them at home. Its like having your own personal trainer for free! And you dont have to worry about anyone else watching you!Just remember, you can have beautifully tones abs and still not have a 6-pack! If you have a little extra fat on your stomach, you can tone your abs but they wont show. There isnt any way to target fat burning. All you can do is burn fat and wait for it to come off of the places that you hate the most. Stick with it, make small changes over time, and you will meet your goals! Good luck!

| sam4mumu (76) | 8 months ago | Thankyou for responding, I have had a quick look at the website and it looks very interesting, I will have a proper look in the next few days, I'm very interested in the nutrition part of the site, i'm always looking for healthy ways to eat. The balance balls look ok too, I've had a look on the internet for prices, I'm in the UK and can get one for about £10, which is pretty cheap, which is what i'm after, don't want to be spending hundreds on anything unless it's the WII as mentioned above!...Thanks again for your suggestions, much appreciated!

| 3. rhl442 (17) | 8 months ago | Hey, I spent a lot time in the gym, when I was in the Navy, ThenI got out got married had children and gained some weight. I've always done pushups in the morning (Not situps) I hate them. Here recently now that I'm 30 I decided I'm really not that old to not be in great shape. A guy I work with and his wife, got this P90X program, it's a set of DVD's. They were both fat, when they got it, my buddy is still a little chubby becaue he's not that serious about it, but he's still lost a lot of weight using that. But his wife.. WOW.. She is into it big time and looks awesome. So I bought myself, it's a really hard work out for someone like me who has really only lifted weights and jogged. It's all yoga, and other stuff, I'm not gonna lie it's pretty hard to do, but you feel great.. It's 120bucks.

4. LuvBr0wn13s (657) | 8 months ago | I HATE sit-ups. When I was in the Army we used to do flutter-kicks. You lie on your back, place your hands flat on the floor under your buttocks. Raise both of your legs about 6 inches from the floor. Then alternate raising your legs up and down, no higher than 2 feet up and no lower than 4 inches from the floor. It is a great workout for your lower abs and you can do it in front of your television. My husband and I gained quite a few 'happily-married' pounds, so we are now working at getting healthy agian. Good luck to you! Happy MyLotting!

7. macdingolinger (1252) | 8 months ago | i think a key is to move more! Try to spend less time stationary. If you sit to work, get up and move around every little bit, like every 30 minutes. Park your car in the furthest parking spaces to get more steps in in a day. Take a walk around the block a few times a day if possible.
The calorie burning activities are good too. But you can make a huge impact by simply moving more each day and cutting back small pieces in your calorie intake.
I do stretches at night to tone. I do some crunches and other stretches. I am not in a place to be able to go to the gym so I have to improvise. I start and do as many as I can then I do about 3-5 more. the next night I do at least that many and at least one more. Before long I am up to about 75 crunches.
It doesn't take as much as you think. You just have to be purposed in your heart and make up your mind. Make the small changes. It will take awhile but you will feel much better for it!

9. cathy78513 (252) | 8 months ago | I used to be 30 lbs overweight. What I did was walking for 30 minutes everyday. This exercise burns calories. You could also try running or swimming which burns more calories than walking. Then I also do some weight training and ball exercises for toning. Now, I'm into Pilates which gives long, lean muscles if done correctly. I also hate going to the gym that's why I bought dumbbells (2 lbs each), exercise ball and exercise band.

10. nightfall14 (123) | 8 months ago | Topics on weight never failed to make me feel depressed, especially since I have been gained some weight recently. I am really passive so I don't like to go outdoor to exercise, but there is no equipment I can use at home either. Thus, exercises like sit-up and push-up are the usual things I do. I have stopped doing it for sometimes now, so all the weights that I have lost are coming back to me x_X
