Last living munchkin from Wizard of Oz dies |
| |
| Such sad news, Mickey Carroll, the last living munchkin from the movie The Wizard of Oz died today. He was 89 years old and lived in St. Louis, MO. He was such a nice guy who always took the time to talk to his fans. I met him several years ago and was simply amazed at how down to earth and active he was. Do you remember him from the movie? | | | | | |

| | I was watching a very old movie on TV the other day, an old black and white movie, it had Grace Kelly in it and I thought at the time probably everyone in that movie would now be gone, yes it is sad when we hear another one of the people who entertained us so much passes away, sometimes it is like losing a friend. | | | | | | |

| | indeed, it is like losing a friend. some of them we looked up to and wanted to be either like them or the character they portrayed. some of them set good examples for us when we were growing up, good old fashioned tv that had family values and morals. its a shame it cant still be like that. i guess that there are not too many 'greats' left now is there? i had the same thoughts about all of them being gone now when i watched the old rerun of the 'whats my line' game show on cable the other night. somewhere on the net, i found a website on actors/actresses and what they all died from, what age they died, etc. it was pretty depressing to see how some of their lives ended, like kitty carlisle. she died of a drug overdose?!?!?!? i was shocked. | | | |

| | That is sad, the end of an era. Dom Delouise died a few days ago as well. It always makes me sad to lose TV or movie icons, especially ones I remember from my childhood. I only remembered him after looking him up because there were so many Munchkins but, when I saw his photo, I most definitely remember him. It makes me want to watch The Wizard of Oz right now... I just might! | | | | | | |

| | it makes me sad too to see the ones i grew up watching all passing away or already gone. it happens though as we get older and thats a bit depressing for me. it tells me that i'm also getting old or older. the one who really got to me was red skelton, when he died. he too was an all time great and i just loved watching his show when i was growing up. thank goodness some of those tv series are coming out on dvd now. it gives us a chance to re-live those old time tv shows. | | | |

| | I used to watch Red Skelton as well. I bought a DVD set of his shows and my sons LOVE watching them! I was surprised at their reaction because, well, you know, they're young and more involved in bang-bang, shoot-em-up type movies and shows. But, they laugh themselves silly over Red Skelton. I always loved his "God Bless" at the end of each of his shows. Yeah, sadly, it does remind us that we're getting older. When John Ritter died at the age of 54, the same year that my sister passed away also at age 54, it really got me thinking about my own life. We've got to get busy living, or get busy dying. That saying is so true because we never know how long we have. | | | |

| | Oh, I just got word that my ex-brother-in-law just recently passed away, ALSO at age 54! Although I haven't seen him in decades (he was my first husband's brother), it still hit pretty hard. That's just too young! At least Mickey lived a good, long life, huh? | | | |

| | Hi paws.....Yes "The Wizard of Oz" has been one of my mosr favorite movies since I can remember. All of my grandchildren have worn out I don't know how many copies of the movie since they have all started watching it. I am not sure which munchkin he was. Was he the one who played the mayor? God Bless him for enriching the lifes of so many children with his God given talents and overcame his adversities in a time where there was not much help for the little people. flutterby | | | | | | |

| | I had to google it to find out which munchkin he was as I couldn't remember. He was the one who led the parade down the yellow brick road, he was carrying or playing a violin. Now the next time you watch the movie with your grand daughter, you know now for sure which one he was! LOL! | | | |

| | He played Munchkinland's town crier. He was the one with the purple coat and the striped vest with the yellow flower sticking out. He was also a munchkin soldier where he marched, and he played the fiddle at the front when the munchkins were leading Dorothy to Emerald City. Hope that helps (: And yeah, this is really sad. My childhood seems to be fading. But he's not the last remaining munchkin. There are still a few more. Very few though. | | | | | | |
