I haven't been able to do much lately here...for awhile now I've been having a lot of joint pain, and then my carpal tunnel began flaring up big time and I haven't had that problem in ages. Then I'm thinking back....and like duh?
You see I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE cheese. I treated myself recently to a virtual smorgasbord of a variety of cheeses and been chowing them down like crazy. I don't often indulge too much, but one time before when I experienced a lot of joint pain and/or carpal tunnel just guess what I had indulged a lot on...yup, cheese. Now I'm reading how too much dairy in general can trigger arthritis pain, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and even fibromyalgia. I've never been particularly lactose intolerant, but who knows, maybe over the years my system has changed and now have a reaction if I have too much dairy.
Anyway, I hope to be better tomorrow (been a good girl and haven't eaten any cheese today) since I'm going batty here. I had a whole line up of articles to rattle out, want to MyLot, but with the pain I've been having I have to stop typing like every few minutes, so getting nowhere fast--have been taking aspirin (only thing I do take)
But have you ever developed a "medical" problem and then wonder like WTF??...then realized that maybe it was some food that you were eating that was triggering it off?
And for those of you who DO have arthritis pain, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and even fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel...did you notice your pain MORE if you ate/drank a lot of dairy? Did you then make the connection??
Uh...have a lot of cheese....anyone want some?

I'm not disagreeing with you but isn't lactose intolerance to do with the large intestine? Which is not to say that eating cheese (and drinking milk??) "can trigger arthritis pain, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, and even fibromyalgia." to quote you.
I suffer from a lot of joint pain especially knees and now shoulders. I DID have carpal tunnel in my wrists but it decreased in huge amounts when I stopped work. I have lost a lot of my mobility due to joint pain and subsequently I have gained weight ...am gaining weight, I should say. No-one has ever told me that dairy foods exacerbate joint pain. In fact, I make sure to have as much milk as I can (I use skim milk) because of the calcium which helps with my osteoporosis. I also take calcium tablets.

Really pye? Dairy products can trigger such things? I thought it's supposed to be good for you, not bad! That is really something! I mean, I can see if you were lactose intolerant but you're not or weren't. Can a body change to become one? I know the body does change but can this happen? It would be so interesting to know if it could happen or not. In any case, I hope you get it all figured out so you can get to feeling better again! We miss having you around!

Interesting... I wonder if cheese affects how I feel? I know I have a lot of joint pain, arthritis, etc. but would have never thought Cheese would effect it. Maybe this is something I need to investigate for myself as well. But I Love Cheese as well, so if it does do this to me, I would really have a hard time, but I could learn.
Hope you are feeling better soon, and wishing you the Best my friend.

Isn't there supposed to be something about aged cheeses that affects many health conditions. Not the fact that it is dairy, but because something happens and it becomes aggravating to a lot health issues. I am sorry, but I am so tired tonight I do not even make the most sense.

I have fibromyalgia and arthritis, but I don't know if I notice that dairy makes it worse. Of course I don't often eat dairy. When I do, it is cheese. Yes, I'm a cheese lover as you are.
But I don't buy it often. The only thing I notice when I eat a lot of dairy (if I remember right), is that I get acid reflux.

I read in a study that carpal tunnel is merely a vitamin B deficiency. A good B complex vitamin taken twice daily should relieve you of your carpal tunnel. For arthritis, I take a good glucosamine/condroitin complex that I get at Puritan.com. It helps me.

lol Hope you feel better soon and learned a painful? lesson. Naw, you'll forget about this within a year and go on another cheese binge and then cycle begins again. lol Never really noticed it with food but I do know when that time of the month comes around, my joints, especially my back, hurt bad. That's when I wish I didn't have to work cause every movement hurts. Cheese? I love cheese. I'll take some sharp cheddar, and Colby/monetary jack please.

Joint pain is not a symptom of lactose intollerance, but could be an allergy trigger. The 2 terms are not interchangable. My mother is lactose intollerant, I'm allergic. She gets the runs, I get respitory congestion.
Now, Maggiepie hasn't been here much because of carpel tunnel and her nurse friend suggested B-6. So, if you can, you might want to go out and get some of that - might want the pills just so you get a big dose for a bit, then you can try increasing the B-6 food intake.
You might also want to get a hand brace and sleep with it on.

Hi pye,
So sorry to hear about your carpal tunnel flareing up, its not nice, its amazing what dairy product can do to a person, I don't eat a lot of cheese but I do love them. I used to have spicy food but now It just does not agree with me and I come out in a rash, it just amazises me how we used to eat anything we like but now we can't.
Bright Blessings.

I do have osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, joint pain, and recently added carpel tunnel. I also know that certain foods can trigger reactions but I am in pain so much that I don't notice if there is any connection between what I am eating and the level of pain. I don't thin I eat a a lot of dairy because I hate milk so I don't drink it and cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc I tend to eat in moderation (or so I think). May be if I were to pay closer attention I could see a correlation. I do notice that on days when I drink more water and less soda I feel a bit better but that is the only food related correlation I have encountered.

I love cheese (with some exceptions), but if I eat too much of it in a sitting or if I've been really stressed out over something, it will clean me out better than any colon cleanse product could ever hope to do. I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Certain foods are trigger foods, but when combined with a mild intolerance (which increased as I got older - not noticeable when I was young) to dairy, cheese can set off quite the episode.
I also suffered severe ankle pain over the past year and continually blamed the now known broken ankle I got Feb 2008. Apparently, although that has possibly contributed to it, the fact that I wasn't taking the full dose of the water pills I was supposed to take kept fluid in my ankle and contributed to the pain factor - even to where I couldn't walk. I take the water pills because I retain a lot of water and am diabetic. Granted, that's not a food, but I'd have never guessed that the pain I've been experiencing for over a year was almost entirely due to improper dosage of the diuretic. Since taking the proper dosage, my ankle feels much better and my shoes feel better. I really would have never guessed since it only affected the one side.

Hope you're feeling a bit improved by now, Pye. It's a b@stard having joint pain - and worse if it means giving up a food you love. I'm an iced coffee addict - and I love cheese, too - so I'm going to talk myself into believing all my aches and pains are just because of ageing - bwahahaa!

You poor dear. That is a bummer that something you enjoy does this to you. I appreciate the information as well. I haven't really found anything that affects me that way. I am going to watch the cheese now thanks to you. I eat pretty healthy and take a supplement for my bones. I am thinking I shall watch closer and see if I find anything. Thanks.

Hi Pye! First of all I want to say I hope you are feeling better now, I know it's a bit late but better late than never I Hope!!
I also wanted to thank you for the heads up on the possible dairy connection and arthritis, joint etc. pain. I too have these pains and sometimes they do flair up worse than others plus the fact that I absolutely adore cheese and sometimes, I admit, I over do it! So next time I do have a particularly bad flair up...I'm going to remember this and see if there may be a connection!!
Again hope you're better now and have a great week-end!!
