omg- my husband and i have a kodak easyshare that we bought with our wedding money 4 years ago, and over the past year or so we have been having the very same problem with it! at first i thought that it was the batteries, but when i kept putting brand new batteries in and the same thing happened, we knew it was the stupid camera. it really makes me mad! i really liked the camera at first, but now there is no way i would tell anyone to get one! we are going to be getting a new one as well, but have to do some research. i love amazon.com- you can research and read people's reviews and see if anyone had problems with the product or if they like it, etc. that is where i do most of my research before buying any big item. good luck!

All digital cameras eat up batteries: currently, the longest lasting batteries are Lithium Ion batteries, but you will only find these in quite expensive cameras, generally SLR systems.

A couple of sets of rechargeables will help: one set in the camera, one set in your pocket and one in the charger.

Digital photography has already matured to the point where there are onetime- use point and shoot versions.
High-end fixed lens cameras usually have a zoom lens and many of the exposure and focus controls found on SLR cameras.
Fixed lens cameras like Canon's S3 IS often have great zoom lenses and capture large images.

If you want some technical advise for purchasing a camera- you have come to the right man. I bought a Nikon D last month so I did a good research on this topic.
I'll give you a list of the best cameras:
*Digital SlR types:
-Canon EOS Digital SLR: very good in focusing
-Nikon D Series: Try it if Canon is costly.

* Point and shoot type:
-Fujifilm Finepix S Series.
I'm sorry I don't know any more to recommend that outruns this camera.

*Premium point and shoot type: these are costlier than the ones above, yet I don't think it has much effect.
-Canon PowerShot G Series
-Lumix (Panasonic) DMC-TZ Series

*Ultra-Slim: I really liked this one's look. If you want to show off your camera, this might be the best.
-Sony Cyber-Shot T Series

In the point and shoot line I have had great success with Canon Powershot Series. I owned a Canon A530 a great started camera with room to grow. A Canon Powershot S5 which had a 10x optical zoom. Very good camera but too bulky for a carry around camera. I now have a Canon Powershot G9. It is a high mp and a 4x optical zoom. I think it is the next best thing to my DSLR. It uses the same battery as my DSLR and can go all day on one battery - several hundred shots. I do not use the LCD when taking photos but rather use the eye piece.

i have 2 kodaks that when i put them on the 'docking' station, it charges up the batteries. i've never had a problem with kodak outside of their tech support. now those people almost caused me to throw away my kodaks and go with something else! the usb plug on the camera went out but i didn't know that was the problem. all i knew was that i couldnt upload the pic's from the camera straight to the pc. those jerks told me that the software wasn't installed correctly and that i should uninstall and reinstall it from their website. WHAAAT? i've been using the same software for 5 years and never had any problems. they insisted it was the problem so i asked them if i did that, would i lose any pictures? 'no' they told me, they'll all be there. B.S.!!!!!! i lost about 3000 pictures! i was livid!!! finally a friend told me that it could be the usb plug and it was. from now on, i'd rather spend 10 hours trying to figure out a problem on my own rather than call those idiots!!! the camera is great, but their tech support needs some serious training!

Cannon Power Shot A470, never seen a digital camera go for so many photographs and still work, while using Nickle Metal Hydride (NiMh) Cells, it can go for hundreds of pictures and still don't die. It is really worth spending your money. With 4 GB SD Card you can save about 90 Minutes of quality movie also. I'm not much of an expert but hey what can one do with a piece of technology that doesn't last much with batteries. some say Power Shot 580 is better but i've not used it yet, so i've got nothing to say about it.
