Why do the US and UK troops always seem to do other nations dirty work? |
|
Just had 2 friends die in Afghanistan and I'm getting fed up with the UK and US troops always doing other nations fighting for them.
Why is it that the UK has a small army with a massive percentage of its troops on active service when other EU nations either stay out of things or get out when they start taking casualties or a few bombs go off.
I don't condone the conflicts that the UK are involved in but I support our troops 100% and now were in it I want us to win it.
The US and the UK seem to do the Worlds fighting and I think that it is time we were properly supported by our so called 'Allies'

1. whywiki (3100) | 8 months ago | Sorry about your 2 friends that died in a thankless war. We Canadians have stepped up to the plate and have sent troops in too, only to have a lot of them come home in a body bag. It is the price of war and helping a nation that needs help. So no need for the USA and the UK to do it all there really is other nations involved.

mike1976 (1100) | 8 months ago | Sorry about that I realise that Canada,Australia and other nations have always been alongside the UK in all recent conflicts. I have probably allowed myself to be more influenced by the media than I should have been.
I was mainly directing my comments at European nations and should have made that a bit clearer.

NAtions like France and Germany who were completely oposed to it or sending troops in, boy, theysure had their hands out in a hurry though when rebuilding and oil contracts came up didn't they? I have to give props to Canada and Australia as well on Afghanistan though, they have suffered great loss there and have faught admirably.

mike1976 (1100) | 8 months ago | I have been a bit cowardly with my discussion I think so I will remedy that.
I am disgusted by the French attitude to conflicts and this goes back to the Falklands war. They profitted greatly from that war and they haven't changed since. As soon as they saw profitable contracts on the horizon they were quick to once again profit from a conflict that they were happy to leave to other nations.
I feel nothing in common with some European nations and wish sometimes that we were closer to our natural Allies such as the US,Canada,Australia,New zealand. These countries essentially share our values and we also have a common heritage.

although same as you I support our troops even though they shouldn't be there in many theatre's of war that they are currently fighting in, due to one reason or another and many lies by various goverments.
Though it does seem that many of the frontline troops are either UK or USA forces, or maybe its just the media only reporting on the UK and USA forces and not mentioning our european allies.
Though it also seems that on a slightly seperate point that the UK and the USA have become some of the most hated and targeted countries due to the various wars we are currently fighting in although the USA didn't help them selves by electing the war hungry George Bush.
Thats my opinion.

mike1976 (1100) | 8 months ago | I agree that we shouldn't have become involved in these conflicts and do think that sometimes we are too quick to follow the US lead when it comes to military action. I don't personally feel that Bush was intelligent enough to be President of the US. Whatever Obama may do as President I think he has more knowledge and intelligence regarding other cultures and nations.
This is also just my opinion and I don't have any real facts to support my beliefs regarding Obama. I do like alot of what I have heard about him and hope he is a good President for the USA.

4. peavey (3801) | 8 months ago | I'm so sorry about your friends. I think that the US and UK, along with a few others, do the dirty work because the European nations know they will. Also, they don't care as much as we do. They're pretty heavy into socialism and don't often see the dangers others face.

mike1976 (1100) | 8 months ago | I would say your views are much the same as mine. There seems to be a general assumption that the usual nations will do the work and that has to change. Neither the US,UK or our other allies economies are capable of sustaining this level of military activity in the current financial climate.
Sweden and Switzerland should help more instead of sticking to their neutrality.

5. starr4all (2181) | 8 months ago | Oh I definately agree! Tired of our troops dying and our countries getting called bullies, yet when they need us they expect to get stuff from us. It's getting really old this game that's being played.

mike1976 (1100) | 8 months ago | It is very easy for people to sit in the safety and comfort of their homes and judge a soldiers actions on the battlefield. Put them in a combat situation with rounds flying around them and they may see that it is not as black and white as it is sometimes portrayed by the media.
In war there are always civilian casualties. Allied troops go out of their way to avoid hurting civilians but unfortunately they aren't always successful. The times they make mistakes hit the news. The times that they get it right are never mentioned.
