then we mind as well take away all of their rights.

i dont get why women are fighting to limit their own rights, it does not make sense.

and honestly i think this is a ploy for the catholic religion to grow and take over the world, if women cant take the pill or get abortions it only makes the catholic family larger and put more money into the religions so they can go around the world and recruit more members to wipe all religions off of the map. a very smart political machine they have set up.

I'm Catholic and female so I don't agree that the Church wants to take over the world. The Church has always been against anything that physically or medically interferes with natural reproduction but that does not mean that all Catholic women follow that doctrine. I know many Catholic women who have used artificial methods of birth control over the years. As for abortion, that is a very emotional topic and everyone has their own opinions about it. You don't have to be Catholic to object to it...or to support a woman's right to choose.

It's just another way for the Religious Right to try to force everyone to live up to their beliefs.
You know it's hard to feel superior if you don't have anyone to look down your nose at. But really so many of these people who want to tell thers how to live are nasty little buggers themselves.
Take the Purity Pledge all the little Baptist girls out here take. Yeah they're virgins when the get married, virgins with rectal tears and scarring.
I think if you talk a woman out of an abortion, you should become financially responsible for her during pregnancy and her child until the age of 18.
Because the hardships aren't what matters, it's that human life, that the protesters don't actually want to be that involved in.

"I think if you talk a woman out of an abortion, you should become financially responsible for her during pregnancy and her child until the age of 18."

So it's all about money to you, is that it? Have you known any women considering abortion who actually went to pro-life groups asking for financial help so they could give birth instead of killing the child?

Your "until the age of 18" bit is complete garbage. If the woman can't or doesn't want to raise her child she could put him up for adoption. Women can even arrange private adoptions where the adoptive parents cover all her medical expenses to be sure the child is born healthy. Of course, killing the child is so much easier.

MrPKitty (93)   ranked 1,662 out of 6,394 in politics  8 months ago

No, it's about interferring in another persons life and then not sticking around for the consequences.
And I'd like to point out that very few people are completely alone in the world. It's easy to say "just give it up for adoption", but the fact is girls/women tend to have families, some of these families will help, some will just apply pressure.
I know 2 girls whose father beg them to keep their babies because he would help out oh so much! He'd pay the bills, babysit so they could go to school, buy supplies and so on.
But when the kids where born he was out of the picture.
I also know a girl who was pretty much held prisoner by Life Choices. She went in pregnant and scared, she came out 12 hours later traumatized by the good christians who berated and belittled her. They convinced her to keep her baby through intimidation and swore they would help out.
Now she living on welfare in public housing with a kid she doesn't want.
Life is far more complicated than can be stated on any message board and it is not up to me, you, or anyone else to make major life altering decisions for another person especially if we are not willing to see them through to the end.

It's not all about the money, it's all about living your own life and letting others live theirs.

"It's not all about the money, it's all about living your own life and letting others live theirs."

Well than let the child live their life. How hard is that? Why is it better to kill the child than let the child live with a mother that doesn't want him? If we can't guarantee a great life for that child, should we just kill it off rather than risk a difficult life?

myLot reputation of 79/100. spalladino (9074)   ranked 176 out of 6,394 in politics  8 months ago

Taskr, MrPKitty gave just a few examples of situations that some women and girls have found themselves in but don't latch onto them as if they're the only reasons women get abortions because they're not. I agree, life is far more complicated than can be stated on any message board. Every woman's situation is unique to her..both prior to, during a pregnancy and afterwards...and no one has the right to force their beliefs on her.

MrPKitty (93)   ranked 1,662 out of 6,394 in politics  8 months ago

What child? There is no child.
There's a pregnant woman who has rights.
If the "unborn" has rights that supersede the woman's, at what point does she lose her humanity and become property?
It's very easy to sit in the high chair, but it's a mighty long way down.

myLot reputation of 75/100. mike1976 (1100)   ranked 13 out of 6,394 in politics  8 months ago

The only woman I would want to talk out of an abortion would be one which I had got pregnant. I would be totally prepared to be financially responsible for the child for the rest of my life. I doubt if I would be responsible for the woman because the child would be living with me as the woman originally wanted the abortion because she didn't want the child.

If she did change her mind when the baby was born I would be responsible for the child but not for her.

I don't disagree with abortion but I do disagree with late term abortions for all except serious medical reasons. Abortion is used as a form of contraception in some cases and I think that this is wrong. I don't think that abortion is an easy option because the people who I know that have had abortions are still very upset about it and haven't just shrugged it off.

I have heard of women who have had several abortions for non medical or contraceptive reasons and feel that it is wrong but I wouldn't want to ban abortion purely because of these cases.

myLot reputation of 75/100. mike1976 (1100)   ranked 13 out of 6,394 in politics  8 months ago

I understand the position of the people who don't agree with abortion. They believe that life begins at conception. When do the people who agree with abortion feel that life begins? Is it when the baby/foetus can survive on its own outside the mother? Is it when the baby/foetus can survive with medical help outside of the mother?

In the UK you can have an abortion up to 24 weeks. There is no time limit to abortions if 2 doctors agree that a womans health or life is endangered if the pregnancy carries on.

There is an example of a baby surviving with medical intervention at 21 weeks.

I was raised a catholic but I don't believe in most of their beliefs. I took the pill for awhile never had an abortion but I believe it's a women's right to decide for herself. Its totally ridulous that we as women don't have control over their own bodies being a Catholic. The catholic church is not raising your kids that you can't afford but they want your money on Sundays. Give me a break. When they say they will support your children as many as you have then I'm on board otherwise the Catholic Church needs to wake up or just go away. I'll probably go to hell for that one. LOL LOL LOL

It isn't about "taking away the rights of a woman to choose."

THAT should have been done BEFORE they entered into that s*exual union, without using birth control.

We who are against abortion are trying to address the "rights" of that unborn child, that God has had a life plan for.

The Catholic church is trying to stand for the rights and life of the baby as well. Notice I didn't use the word fetus here - which is nothing more than a medical term to make it easier for people to believe that it is not a human life. They'll explain that to God one day, I'm sure.

'nuff said

People who don't exist can not have rights that supersede the rights of people who are actually here right now.

At what point does a woman's rights cease in favor of a potential nonexistent person?
At implantation? Conception? Ovulation?
Every egg a woman produces could be a person if the circumstances are just right.
If a woman does not do her best to bring every egg/potential person into life is she guilty of a denying them their right to life?

Look around, life is not so simple. People who would be great parents can't always have their own children. People who are horrible parents have kids they don't care for.
The right to CHOOSE is just that, a right. Like the right to practice the religion of your choice, the right to further your education, the right to raise your children as you see fit.
Women aren't cattle. We're not here to produce at the command of others.

Btw, convenience is being able to pick up dinner on the way home from work.

If you think abortion is easy and convenient, you're not thinking.

There should be equal rights for everyone i think.that should be better don't you think so?There should not be any difference for boys and girls as we are all humans right.and to discriminate between one another is such a bad thing to do...

myLot reputation of 51/100. Taskr36 (4646)   ranked 392 out of 6,394 in politics  8 months ago

I agree completely. We are all humans and so are the children killed by abortion. We shouldn't discriminate against them because they can't defend themselves.
