We can't get my car to turn off!   email this discussion to a friend?

We took out the battery but when I went to search for answers online I found a forum that said that will only blow the fuses and we don't want that, do we put it back in? My bf says the mechanic told him the front-engine vacuum pump is the problem and told him to push on the emergency stop switch when he got home but the car still refuses to shut off.

We also tried wiggling on the key and steering wheel just in case it could be an ignition problem but I think that is out of the question. We don't want to leave it idling (it's diesel, and loud for 12am) the whole night because it still has almost half a tank left!

PLEASE someone help us, my bf job requires a car and I just do not want to do more harm to the car if we do not have to, what do you suggest?

it seems that you guys do not know much about car repairs you should not have taken out the battery of the car in the first place if you did not know how to proceed.in these circumstances it is best to show the car to a mechanic since you do not want anymore damage to your car.any mistake you make while trying to do things yourself will only complicate the problem which might even damage the car and you will end up paying double of what you would have if you had taken it to the mechanic in the first place.

If we didn't know what to do how were we supposed to know not to take the battery out? What happened is that he did go to the mechanic and the mechanic showed him an emergency stop switch that will stop the car when he got home from work. Well he got home and it didn't work and he spent some time on it pushing the knob and we live in an apartment complex and our car is a diesel which is loud for 12am. So we started going into panic mode and saw online someone suggesting removing the battery and when that happened we had no idea what to do. People suggested removing a fuse, plugging the exhaust, taking pump off throttle.

I finally suggested he go over the state line and there is a truck stop and their are always truckers there, tons of them. He got some help from one of them there and it turned out it was the emergency stop switch that he needed to push but the guy helping said it was somehow out of whack and took some part off of it and thats when it turned off.
