Most major Philippine banks have basically the same time deposit rates. So you can't go wrong with them. In fact, that's the most prudent thing to do, to go with a major bank. You don't wanna put your hard-earned cash on a small commercial (or rural) bank, only to find out they went bankrupt when another big financial crisis hits our country. Sure, every deposit is ensured with PDIC, but the hassle of going back and forth trying to recoup your savings from a failed bank is just something you don't wanna endure. So go with a major bank. For time deposits between P10,000 and P50,000, the best bank would be BPI (2.2% for 30 days and 2.6% for 90 days). For P50k-100,000, BPI (2.5% for 30 days and 2.7% for 90 days) and BDO (2.2% for 30 days and 3.2% for 180 days) would be your best bet. For 100k-500k, PSBank gives 3.5% (30 days) and 2.7% (90 days).

Yes I don't wanna lose a single cent. Metrobank offered me to put my money on bonds/stocks but I don't understand anything about it. I put my money on regular savings account. But I don't think I will be using it so I want to put in TD.

PSbank seems to have the highest interest among mentioned. just want to clarify since it's the first time i'd be doing it.

3.5% per month if one put at least 100k
so that means I have 3500 for 30 days?

Did I understand it correctly? would I have 3.5k after 30 days if I put 100k? it seems a lot of saving.

I understand when I inquired in Metrobank that a 100k can only earn an intrest of 1.6k yearly if placed on TD.

Actually, all TD rates are annual. So you compute your earnings (or interest) by this formula: principal x rate x period then divided by 360 (P100k x .035 x 30 days/ 360= P291.66). There's also a 20% withholding tax on your earnings. Time Deposits are suited for big amounts, like if you have P5M, it'd earn you roughly P15thou per month. I know a lotto winner in my city who basically does that, her monthly living expenses comes from her time deposit earnings. Some people do that, they spread different TD's with different maturity periods and they just live off the earnings from those TDs. But you can only do that with big amounts. That's probably why the bank officer at Metrobank advised you to put your money on bonds or stocks, because the yield is higher (but the risks are greater, you can lose your money).

Hello JDy, I did a research on the current rates of time deposits here in the Philippines and so far I found LBC bank, Planters Bank, China Trust and Equitable Savings Bank that offers the highest rates. You have to place your deposit for at least 5 years so that it would be tax exempted. The rates and products are Planters Bank Premium Five 6.25% P.A. (net), China Trust Innovate 6.25% P.A. (net)LBC Bank Royal Earner 8% P.A, and EQSB Supersaver Plus 8.9977% P.A. All these rates are for 5yrs time deposit and are all covered by PDIC. I hope this information is useful to you.

Surely they are useful info.

But 5 years is a little longer. How much minimum deposit do they accept for TD?
I cannot put all my money on to them for 5 years because I may use them. But I would definitely check sometime the terms.

Hi I've been reading recently and comparing products. I am a little bit tired looking.
I transferred money from a bank to another, for higher interest rates than regular savings account.

Now I am thinking of pulling out another account to place it in TD in one of those banks.

What is EQSB are they not affiliated or changed name to BDO?
Next, LBC bank don't offer much info on their website.
I am considering planters Bank or LBC bank but no LBC bank near where I live, same with China Bank.

well, for me, i think the one of the bank that has the highest return was PSBank, i think its a part of the Metrobank group.

I googled it and it compared BPI, BDO, and PSBank.

However, i am not a fan of time deposits.

Let me explain, ever thought of inflation? what is its rate?

Now how about the interest you are going to make?and its rate?

See, if you compare these two, inflation is always greater than the interest you are going to make from t he time deposit. So the money that you will be earning won't be having its real value today because in the future, that 100 of yours will definitely worth below 100. So in my opinion. its better to invest in a business of your own. Think of a business that the market will like or is currently liked by the market. That's a good place to start.

In a way you are right. But I just want to have passive income. I can do that with business though if I can think of one. But the problem is, I am not ready for it.

I checked what the poster just above you said and I feel I want to take risks for higher interest rates.
