I'm always saying I don't know what I want to do with my life...I know I like to write--I'm taking a writing class right now. Actually just started it and am working on my first task. but one thing I think I would really enjoy would be to start my own non-profit. And I have an idea for one I think is good...i just think it's too difficult! There's a lot of money and stuff involved to even START one...I just wish being charitable didn't cost so much! lol

I hear ya! I actually just started my own non-profit! It's a charity that raises money for animal rescue organizations. We have a website if you'd like to learn more http://www.rosiesanimalhouse.org We've just started to get some donations in! And we're about to start some major fundraising so we can get really get the organization up and running! If you need a lot more money than you have to get started, there are grants out there you can apply for to get the money to start your non-profit! Here is some information on how to get grants and such. It's specifically about funding for animal welfare organizations, but it can be a great starting to point for any non-profit organization http://petfoster.org/funding.html I know around here where I live there are colleges that offer a certification program in Non-Profit management. In the program you learn Board Relationships, Evaluation, Finance, Fund Raising, Human Resources, Information Technology, Leadership and Management, Legal Issues, Marketing and Public Relations, Organizational Development, and Volunteer Management. It might be a great resource if you're serious about starting your own non profit. Especially if you're trying to figure out just how to get started!

Great website! I love that little pomerian that you have on spotlight! I would take him in a second if i could!! I love all the little cartoons you have on the site :D It's all very cute and visually pleasing. (Maybe if I get mine up and running sometime I'll have to ask you to help me make a site :P) Thanks for the website! That'll be great for when I finally convince myself to try out my non-profit idea :P Part of it would be an animal rescue, so i think o would be able to follow the grant info. I did not know colleges offer courses like that! I'll have to look it up and see if any around me do. That would defeniatly be great! Can you take the class alone? Because I'm not in school right now-but I would defeniatly consider taking a non-profit course. Thanks! :D

Thank you! My mom is a graphic artist, so she made all of the graphics! And I did the layout and such! If you just do a search for "non profit management certificate" you'll find a bunch of colleges that offer the certification program. So you'll probably be able to find one near you, or maybe even one that you could complete entirely online. That way you can find out more about each specific program and find out if you could just take a class or two without completing the entire program. I know the specific program I'm looking at has no admission requirements. Anyone can sign up and take any class they want. Many of the classes are even offered online. To get the certificate, you just have to complete 50 classroom hours in the program. But if you just want to take a class on fundraising and grant writing, you can do that. Or if you just want to take a class on financial management for a non-profit, you can do that!

I visited a few sites for non profit courses. They cost quite a bit! I couldn't afford to do one right now; I just started a writing course that cost me about 500 bucks. but I will defeniatly have to keep them in mind and possibly take one when I'm done with my writing. Would be very useful! Thank you :)

It is a shame that everything anymore seems to cost so much. It is so hard to get things done like you would want too do to expense. Especially when it comes to ideas that in the long run might help someone out more as well. But you might want to consider writing up a proposal of what you are wanting to do, and hoping to accomplish and then find places that are willing to help you out with those as well. It sounds like an interesting task indeed.

Well it'd be great if I could start up my non-profit sometime in the near or distant future--because it would be helping people and animals alike! But it would be a lot of work and a lot of expenses--so i would need a lot of help in those areas! :D Thanks!

That's the problem with those kinds of things. It takes money to start them, and it takes money to maintain them, so how much of the money collected really goes to the organization the charity is supposed to support? I wish there was a better way to raise money for such good causes.

Are you asking me how much money collected would go to my organization? I would have to say...99.9%-100% lol. The thing I have in mind would take a lot and I wouldn't want to risk losing it because of money issues! X.X i think fundraisers are really fun, but can be quite risky if you don't have some steady money flow from a sponser or something.

de ja vu... didn't I respond to this one before? Weird. Yeah, unfortunately, it's hard as hades, it seems, to find the means to make this world a better a place--be a do-nothing or a social vampire--that's easy enough, heck you can even find social programs to help you out in doing nothing but milking off the system, but to actually try to do something that makes a difference you find that no one wants to spare you the time, the money, an interested ear, any resources, or any assistance. Okay, I'm not trying to be glum here, but I agree it is hard. Take just giving money to charity for example. I'm frustrated because I gave to one or two causes, and then someone sold my phone number! I've got charities I've never heard of asking for money. Or take trying to do something that REALLLLLY matters, like something political--"bring the troops home!" you might holler, or "audit the fed" or "fix our country first"--I mean something, what ever your political leaning that makes sense, is positive, is pragmatic, and really would make the world a better place--and the sheeple so complacent in the status quo will, at best, laugh at you, or at worst, outright attack you for being un-American/bigoted/ignorant/unrealistic/crazy/naive/etc. so, yeah, making a difference is tough no matter how you look at it.

Well you didn't respond to this discussion from me before :p I've only recently thought about this nonprofit. Possibly from someone else?? I would never give out donaters information!!!!! I think that would completely distroy any trust...if I wanted to get some help to other charities I'd probably send the donater information on them, but not the other way around. I've been trying to think of a way to really make the donation personable and worthwhile. I'm doing a lot of brainstorm on my idea for this, and I think it sounds really great (I'm bias though :P)...and I'm planning on taking some online classes for it (like people mentioned above). I really hope if i decide this is something I can do, that I can get a lot of help! Because helpeing people AND animals (hint at basis of nonprofit) is NOT cheap! lol
