 Is anyone in karate or ever have been in the past? What kind of martial arts have you been in? I was in karate when I was younger in my teens. I liked it and it was something new to learn. My husband was in it for many years. All he need left was his black belt. But the teacher he had rather you were good or not. If you didn't suck up to him you weren't getting your black belt know matter how hard you trained. Did you ever have to deal with someone like that?

| 2. Dragonez (58) | 7 months ago |  Ah yes Martial arts, Been into it all my life and I was in Karate, Taekwondo, Kungfu(Dragon and wushu), Jujitsu and more. I taught privately for around 8 years I guess and I've had to deal with many teachers that were, Well lets just say.. Cocky and acted like they were king of the world.
Usually it's American teachers that I have noticed that act that way and no offence to any Americans, I'm American too and I don't mean all lol. But Japanese and Chinese teachers I've had were real good and showed respect for all as long as you tried your best. I'm sure their are bad ones all over though, This is only my opinion.

I think the Japanese have a lot of respect as long as you want to learn and have respect for them as well. You were in a lot of martial arts. My husband was in a couple of them. Hes seen people get there black belt and can't fight worth a lick. Like one he was in class with. He was to afraid to do anything but got the belt. How does that work? | |

| Dragonez (58) | 7 months ago | Well depending on the class, teacher and other things, Some people can make it through quite easy as long as they follow instructions.
I've been to a few of those but never stayed long. Good teachers watch for real improvement and aren't just worried about the pay check. | |

3.  timelord50 (134) | 6 months ago |  that is very unfair in my books i have done freestyle kickboxing for the last 12 years i am going for my black belt in october but my instructor wont be examining me its a higher dan grade panel i will be performing in front of so i think what he got put through was unfair.
as a teacher myself i prefer students to be able to go to the best of their abilities and don't pressure them into 'if you don't do as i say your not getting it' type of thing
i do believe that his instructor hasn't been very traditional or respectful in my eyes and shouldnt be teaching.

But the teacher didn't have know respect for anyone. Only the ones that sucked up to him. Even if they were know good and they sucked up he passed them. But my husband wouldn't suck up to him so he didn't give it him. Yes it was very unfair to him. The guy isn't teaching anymore the city threw him out because they didn't like him and he was trying to run for governer of that city but failed. | |
