What things did you despise in High School |
|
For me it was in Connecticut, the high school i graduated in.
Every other week was another carnation sale and you would see them on the floors here and there, at least the stems and the carnation sales were the one source of raising money for clubs in the school.
It was like the biggest popularity contest and what girl could get the most flowers week after week. You could see how it can get out of hand when friends are buying friends who are buying flowers for other friends. The class would even stop when a student delivers the flower because she had to say the students name and bring it to her. But since it was so often they would have these sales the teachers just stopped the class, the friends would giggle, one girl would yell 'uh-OH!' in one class who was teachers pet.
As if its not hard enough to survive and feel normal you have to be the most popular. For those of us who refused to conform is what a pain in my arse.

1. BishounenNerd (228) | 7 months ago | My list goes on and on... First of all, there was this weird rule where they tried to have traffic in the stairways going one direction or another. Well, My locker was downstairs, and in order for me to get to P.E. class, I had to go all the way down the hall from my last class, down the stairs, go back the way I came on the first floor, go to my locker, put my books in it, go back again, and hurry to P.E. before the bell rung. And that's also another thing I hate. You only have so much time to get from one class to another. Plus, you had to get up really early in the morning (It's a miracle if you can get me out of bed before 11:00 A.M. now.) in order to catch the bus. Also, I hated P.E. uniforms. They didn't look good at all, and do be honest... Also, what's up with dress codes? TOO CONFORMIST! That's some of my major gripes with my high school.

revellanotvanella (1946) | 7 months ago | man, I missed the bus so much that I STILL have dreams about missing the bus and Im 27! And my locker was always so far away from where my classes resided I was in class always a couple mintues late. That rule of walking in certain directions is kind of cooky, don't you already feel like a robot with all the rules and then you have to walk in certain directions?? Was that the principals rule, lol?

|
|
BishounenNerd (228) | 7 months ago | Not sure whose rule it was, but I remember they had HALL MONITORS near the staircases to keep people from going the wrong way. It was complete BS, and often it made things hectic for me.

2. celticrogue (371) | 7 months ago | I went to high school in the late 1960s. P.E. was the class I dreaded most, mainly because I had very little athletic ability other than running. I was slightly overweight in high school, so for team sports when the 'chosen' team captains chose their teams, I was amongst the last 5 - 6, especially as a freshman and sophomore. As I went through high school, I did improve on athletic abilities so that by the time I was a senior, I up into getting picked half-way through the group, but felt bad for the freshmen whom were picked last.
Otherwise, I had a pretty good time in high school.

i took 1st & 2nd year of high school at the heart of the city -- we call it downtown area. my sister asked my parents then for me to live with here so she has someone to live with.
during my 3rd & 4th, i went back home and continued high school there, about an hour drive from downtown.
people from my 2nd school is just so groupie. if they don't like your style or if you're too much for their old style, they get envy and they feel you don't belong.
i am the type of person who doesn't mingle just that. if you're going to smile, you'll get one from me too. if someone says hi and hello, well hello to you too. but if none, who cares.
the thing is, professors are so groupie too. they do have their own choice. if you're a nobody and not so showy about your talents, you're a nobody. if there will be contests or programs in school, don't expect you're part of it.
i just don't like my last 2 years in high school.

5. PeacefulWmn9 (2657) | 7 months ago | Wow, it's been a while, but some things stay with a person. Five minutes to get from one class to another in a huge building meant always rushing and carrying a ton of books (this was before back packs became the in thing) because you'd not have time to go to the locker. Competition, yup. There were cliques, but that's okay. I had my own great friends. Mean teachers. Ugh! One would actually throw chalk and blackboard erasers all around when she was angry. And I was not fond of algebra.
Of course, I have even more good memories of high school than bad. Yay!

PeacefulWmn9 (2657) | 7 months ago | What a terrible thing to tell a child, even if she wouldn't have really done it! Things like this kind of scare can stick with a person a long time. I remember a Sunday school teacher telling us that if we didn't accept Christ as our savior, we'd all burn in hell for ever. I was 8, and had nightmares about it for years.

| 6. XxAznBoixX (62) | 7 months ago | My personal favorite thing to despise about high school is WannaBe Gangster Asians.
I am a Asian myself, but seeing these guys disgust me. Everyone of them wears the exact same brands of clothes and have NO manners what so ever.
They just give the look like they are better than everyone else.
I had a friend who got a ride home from this kid in grade 11, saying the back of his car was full of drugs. Too bad she didnt remember the liscense plate so I could have that guy busted...
High schoolers (even Jr High) has WAY too much drama. I'm so glad I didnt hangout with big groups in High school...

7. okkidokitokki (1387) | 7 months ago | The high school I went to was big on footbal. I happened to go their during a three year winning streak and was in classes with the football players. I worked hard in my classes to make passing grades while the football guy slept in class, the cheerleaders also goofed off and did not turn in their homework because they were affiliated with football.

revellanotvanella (1946) | 7 months ago | Well, my last high school (in CT)--my history class it was actually popular to be the smartest kid in class, which isn't a bad thing, it just felt soo competitive and I always felt like a loser when I missed an assignment or didn't get an A, these kids never missed an assignment!! The ironic thing is even though I only managed to get C's in that class now as an adult I found I love learning history and I am trying to re-learn all that I missed in high school to fit the peices together.

| 9. willingee (38) | 7 months ago | I lived in the school dormitory when I was in high school.Frankly speaking,I was really fed up with our school cafeteria. When it's lunch time, many students run off the teaching building as soon as possible in order to stand in front of the queue to have lunch earlier. My classroom is on the 6th floor,so each time I get to the cafeteria, there are lot of people in front of me.I have to wait for a long time. Also, there are some queue jumpers, whose behavior is kinda disgusting.Plus, the food is usually not to my taste.Luckily, these are the past!

| 10. Kanani79 (19) | 7 months ago | I absolutely hated the carnation sales in my high school. You'd have one for every damn holiday and it seemed so pointless because all they do is wither and die within hours. Here's a way to say I care: A dead carnation. Your friendship dies. LOL. No seriously though. There was one for v-day, one for easter, one for st. patty's day. I mean come on. You want to raise money...be more creative then giving out dead flowers.
Other then that the one thing I really hated in high school was how for the most part the artsy type people (i.e. me!) were like shunned and considered different. If you weren't an anorexic cheerleader or a jock you were nobody basically. I'm sure nothing has changed in the 10 years I've been out of school but it's still disgusting to see. It makes people feel isolated and alone and sometimes you wonder why there are so many attacks against teens by other teens...etc.

revellanotvanella (1946) | 7 months ago | the students were trying so hard to hold this facade of who they were (popular & cool?) that maybe they resented us artsy folk because we could actually express ourselves honestly
| |
|
|
| Kanani79 (19) | 7 months ago | It's truly sad when you can't express yourself freely and openly. I've taught my nephew not to be afraid of who he is. He's 9 and he barely plays with toys. He likes paints, crayons, art canvases. He loves to write and read stories. He's brilliant at it too. He also loves sports. He plays baseball and basketball recreationally. I will not hinder him in anyway. If he wants to be a ballplayer, fine. If he wants to be an artist, fine. Hell, if he wants to be both, go for it!
I can't stand people who are so closeminded that they'd rather be cruel to people who are talented. It's sad because if the person is hounded enough they might leave behind their god given talent which isn't fair.
Thanks for replying
