Career Day at an Elementary School. Have you ever presented at or been to one?  

This woman who ran the riding school started with the 4H when she was a kid. She has over 30 years of horse experience/training now. She trains horses and people as well as travels to do competitions.

Sounds like not very varied where you were. Although there are lots of different kinds of professors, government jobs, and support jobs. Our school districts include several towns in the country. So there are literally hundreds of occupations that can be tapped. When I was a kid, they just had as many parents come in as possible. Now they just ask a few people to come in every year and they have different professions each year come in. So those 9 probably won't be back to that particular school next year. Surprised they had two farm-related jobs; horses and dairy in the same presentation. Maybe beef cows and chickens next year, you never know.

when I was growing up, Austin was Government and University mostly, IBM opened a plant but it was to build typewriters - this long before computers were ever considered and the internet only science fiction - if they even dreamed of it - actually I've found a few early books that considered it, but only a very few, and really nothing so ... democratic as it has turned out to be.

Yeah, who knew IBM would have been such a big deal. If we could go back in a time machine and buy stocks, we'd be worth millions.

Heck, in high school (the Catholic one) I even went to school with and rode horses with one of the daughters of a state Senator.

So they may not have had a career day, but they did do things that showed what people do just the same. I can't imagine kids getting into the taxes like the teachers would. So did the daughter who went on the fire truck become one of the ones in the fire department?

Yes, it's the same daughter. She is a firefighter/paramedic. Thanks for the best reponse.

That's too bad. It was fun and interesting. I would have liked a femal forest ranger and some other choices to come to my school when I was younger. I might have chosen different work. But I have had all kinds of work as it is.
