limit - 1 garbage bag per household weekly

just two in our house and most weeks i put only one bag out. it's rare that we have more than that unless i'm cleaning out closets and so on.

It would be good to see more cities do this, somehow we mush cut back on waste, we are be buried in our own trash.

Hi Cher, Here in the UK we are encouraged to recycle but at present there is no bag limit in my area but in some area they are bringing in a taging system where you are charged per kilo of waste you through. Most of the time ther is only myself and my son and I can usually just put out the one bag but this week there are two as I have had the girls here over the weekend plus I have been having a sort out. Rather than your bylaw being one bag per household they should consider number of residents per house and allocate how many nbags on that. Huggles. Ellie:D

HI cher913! Oh my god! I have never heard of anything like this but I definately know I would'nt be able to do it. I have a 4mnth baby girl, my brother living with me, my mom taking care of my baby during the day, me and my husband all living there. I hope they dont do this in u.s.a! Happy Mylotting!

How big can the bag be? It is just my hubby and me and our cat but we usually have a garbage bag every other day we have no garbage disposal. Im sure that really makes a difference. We could never do it on one bag a week unless the bag was HUGE lol.

That seems a hard task for families.Everything will have to be squashed down flat and thinned out.It definately will make people recycle more as they will have no choice,or they will dump on the road side instead.We have wheelie bins one for normal rubbish,one for garden waste and they are picked up every other week in turn.It works well for us as there are only three of us.My neibour has four kids and even she makes it work now.She does get a larger bin for her size family.If there are no children in the house hold you get a smaller bin.so there are three different sizes of bins for normal rubbish,normally we never fill our bin up over the the two weeks.we also get a green box for paper,tins,foil,The only thing they don't collect is plastic,Which is a shame as plastic is about the only thing we put in our normal rubbish bin.Glass we take to a recycling bin at the supermarket.We have two compost bins in our garden where we put our food waste and garden clippings.The mown grass goes in the green wheelie bin along with card board,food waste can go in there in winter but in summer we get maggots and they are awful when they emerge from the bin.I think that just about covers everything accept for the clothes which go to a charity shop or friends kids get first dibs.

yes that is about what we use, one garbage bag a week now because we do recycle so it does not change much for us. I think for some people it would be a problem, especially with big families.

No, there's no law here in Maine regarding weekly garbage disposal. We do recycle. We are a family of 5, but 3 of us here most of the time, usually have 1-2 bags a week. Most of the time 1, unless it's been a busy week with company.

We pay for the dump by getting permit at the town office. You do have to use the Waste Transfer Station (that's what it's called here)that service your county. Certain items also have a few to have properly disposed of.

There are still landfills around, but they will eventually be converted.

I don't think we could, I mean I guess we could if we had too, but it would have to be a really big bag. Our garbage company gives us a large garbage can that holds at least 6 kitchen sized garbage bags. We usually fill it up every week. I do recycle many things too, but we still manage to fill up that garbage can every week. I cook every night and some of the packaging and stuff is not recyclable. What do you do when you do a big clean up, and need to throw out stuff like that? We just cleaned our basement last weekend and threw out 3 huge garbage bags of broken toys. What do you do in a case like that?

Here in Northern Ireland,Each household is supplied with 2 wheely bins for rubbish by the local council..1 for regular waste,1 for recyclimg..we put them out for collection on alternate weeks..there's 2 sizes (large and small,natch... )I had the choice when I moved here,and decided to go with the larger size,and as a result I have yet to overfill one of mine..Apparently the collectors can refuse (boom boom) to empty a bin if it's been overloaded..You have to pay to use your local dumping facilities?! (I suppose we do too..it probably comes out of our yearly rates bill!)
