make-up....really, what is the big deal? |
|
Before anything, lemme give you a little info on why I'm asking this. I'm 16, a female of course. In my 16 years, I've yet to wear make-up.
Ok I lied. When I was maybe 12, I had a huge zit right before picture day so I used some of my grandma's make-up to cover it. Didn't work out for me. Since then I've never even touched make-up. I don't even know what anything is. Concealer; huh, what's that? It's like a totally different language to me. Not sure if it's a weird thing or not. I admit I was sorta tomboy-ish when I was younger. I think I've grown outta that...but the make-up thing just still isn't my cup of tea.
I was thinking a lot of women wear make-up because of insecurity, or they have some kind of flaw and want to cover it up. Which is understandable, I guess. But even now, I have a few pimples here and there, and some little scars and scratches on my face. But I'm no necessarily embarrassed about it. I don't really feel like I need to cover it up. It is what it is, I look how I look. I'll grow outta the zits, I know that. The scars and stuff are there for good. Why try to cover it up my whole life?
Hopefully no one who wears make-up is reading this thinking I'm ridiculous or something. I just really don't get why women choose to wear make-up. I myself admit that many women look much more beautiful when they are completely clean and natural. But that's just my opinion.
What is your opinion? Guy or girl, I wanna know what everyone thinks about this; it's been in my head for a while!

jeneias (230) | 6 months ago | Good idea; the last thing we need is guys going around worrying about covering a "blemish" or whatever you'd like to call it. Imagine! Anyway, I'm glad not all guys are attracted to the girls with make-up caked on their faces.. Wait, I just noticed your in Canada -- maybe it's just the American guys! lol (joking guys!=D)

2. sysdexlicwriter (1139) | 6 months ago | Wearing makeup to me is like deciding to dress up. As you get older, age spots start to pop up. At one point I had a really dark spot over my right eyebrow. Makeup really didn't cover it and I started combing my hair over it. Finally I found out that it showed my liver was underactive. I had some lemon water every morning with a bit of cayenne pepper added to it. Within six months the spot was gone and has not returned.
I like to wear makeup but it must be in a way that will enhance my coloring and features (maybe like my eyes). It must be done subtly so that when I walk in a room, someone doesn't look and think, "Wow who fell in the bucket of paint?"
Also, when I wear makeup, I try to wear a brand that is as natural as possible. My favorite is Bare Minerals. It is a little more pricey but it really makes my skin look healthy. As for concealer, that is used specifically on something like a zit or a scar or in my case some dark spots. Most concealers look cakey and uglier than if you just skipped it. The Bare Minerals brand has a terrific concealer that is unnoticeable when used.
If you have never worn make up, I would suggest you try to find a store that sells something like Bare Minerals and ask it someone would give you a free make up demonstration. You may change your mind after doing something like this. It is fun and free or should be. The only other thing to watch is that someone picks out the colors that are right for you. So many times people try to get me to try reds with an orange hue. My face looks terrible with those shades. For some reason the reds with a purple hue does the trick for me.
On most days I don't wear makeup. I do try to keep my face clean and moisturized. At fifty-five years old that has paid off as I have very few wrinkles or sagging. Sometimes just for fun I enjoy giving myself a nice facial at home. Hmmmmm, that would be fun to do right about now!

3. britt_200 (527) | 6 months ago | i love make up! i dont go anywhere without my make up...i always wear mascara, blush, and foundation, either powder or liquid. but when i really get ready to go out i wear eyeliner and eyeshadow and stuff. i like the way i look in pictures, and i dont put too much on to where it looks like its caked on. i dont like putting too much on like a clown either...it just depends on your face structure and stuff...im thinkin since youre so young you dont know yet...but i could be wrong...i just love it and everyone i know does too...

jeneias (230) | 6 months ago | Thanks for your response, brit_200. It could be that I haven't reached that "make-up stage" yet. I'm not sure. Most girls I know, my age, are wearing make-up and stuff. I'm just not into it. I like how I look naturally. I believe if people (and not just women, but in general) would take better care of themselves and their skin, maybe they wouldn't feel the need to cover anything up. Like you said though, I could be wrong. Anyway, thanks again for your insight, really appreciate it.

4. russso (1301) | 6 months ago | Most women wear make-up to enhance their facial features. I do not wear make-up everyday, but on days that I'm in the mood to wear 'em, I make sure that my stands out. Some women wear make-up because they want to look prettier, which actually works.

jeneias (230) | 6 months ago | Well, I don't see how a women can let her skin get so bad. Sure, some things you can't really control; understandable, but a lot of things can be fixed by cleaning your face, a good diet, etc. Dark shadows, pimples, cold sores, etc. I've had(or have) them all. The reason I have some of those problems is because my diet has changed, and I haven't been eating well lately. That's the only problem. I think we all need to be a little more educated in our health before we go around thinking make-up is the last option:)

anotherxidentity (880) | 6 months ago | uneven skin tones aren't just because of diets etc. you have to realize a lot of things can be caused by stressed or just work atmosphere - like constantly working outside etc. and those things can't be easily fix like you are trying to portray. There are things people have to do on a daily basis to make it through life but I wouldn't expect you to realize that because of your age. I'm almost 20 and already going through 2 years of college I know the impact grades and internships etc. can cause on a student making students stay up really late to study and the stress interviews can bring. And you can't say well be a good student the entire semester then because there are kids that are, but if you want to go to grad school your GPA better be a close 4.0 for most schools.

6. grace24 (396) | 6 months ago | Me i am also wearing make up when i go around or when i hang out with my friends. I wear make up in some important occasions. For me theres nothing wrong in putting make up. It doesn't mean that when you are putting make up, you are ugly or hiding something in your face. Maybe for other women they use it to hide their blemishes in their face but using of make up makes more a women to look attractive. It is a part of growing up. For me being natural is better but sometimes you need to groom yourself to get another look. Putting of make up is fun because you are trying to get different look.

7. vnrsudhan (810) | 6 months ago | hi jeneias, you are right, some people, not just girls boys too, don't want others to see the scars or something else on their face.they think that it will discourage them.so they use a lot of make ups,and after they take the make off, they start to look really really ugly without it,thats the matter why most of the celebrities always wear a makeup even if they are just going out.i am the sort of person like you,i don't want some silly make ups to hide my real face,i just like my face the way it is.but i do wash my face twice or thrice a day as i have oily skin.

jeneias (230) | 6 months ago | It's good that you wash your skin daily, that's the best way to keep your skin healthy. A good diet and sleep helps too. I know because I've been lacking both, and I've been getting lots of pimples, and have dark spots under my eyes (like I haven't slept in months). Gotta change that!

| 8. tanya0712 (5) | 6 months ago | Ok, my opinion to this, is every one suit yourself... I have worn makeupp everyday since I was 9. Its not that I am insecure or anything, It just makes me feel so much better about myself. Plus I like to try out different colors without makin myself look like a hoe. Honestly, There are a ton of dirrerent reasons girls wear it, weather it is skin issues, creativity, just makes u feel pretty, or even like u said, insecurities. But I am not saying u should wear it. If u feel pretty the way u are and have that confedence, then go you.. Because confedence is really what its all about, and if u have that without spendin a ton of money, then great!
