Also it takes much longer to read the books so you get more suspense and excitment out of them!! I love the Harry Potter films too tho

x_Jo_x (701) | 8 months ago | Yep I agree. They do definatly cut massive chunks out which makes it not as true to the book, but obviously because of time reasons they cant keep it all in. I like the movies though, think they have been put together really well, im looking forward to when the next one is out!

2. vnrsudhan (840) | 8 months ago | hi x_Jo_x, i prefer to read the harry potter books rather than watch the movie, because in the movie, they do a lot of alterations to the story,i always prefer to read the story as it is,so reading the book is the best way to do that.

The advantage of movies, obviously, is that you don't need to imagine what is happening since you see it. You got special effects, awesome cinematography, the works. But since all movies are, at the most, limited only up to two hours or less... (the longest for me being "Braveheart" that is nearly three hours long) you are missing out a lot of details.
The book has more advantages, though you can't see with your eyes what is happening. You have to envision it. But the great part is that a lot of the "missing stuff" from the film is missing, and that detail about Cho Chang is much better than what the movie did.
Moreover, you get to be into the mind of Harry as he goes through school each year. But if you're "too busy" reading, try Jim Dale's reading of the Harry Potter Novels.
They're quite excellent and entertaining.

Ron Weasley was already a quidditch member at book 5, though this wasn't shown in the movie.

x_Jo_x (701) | 8 months ago | Yep definatly right! And also, the movies are one persons vision of what the book is trying to say. Rather than your own. Although i think the cast are very good and it is done really well, so they did a good job with it

5. aizen18 (100) | 8 months ago | If you're a bookworm and got a powerful and wild imagination, you might prefer to read the book. You might picture what you read better than the effects done on the movie.
But for a person like me who can't finish a novel, I go for the movies. But movies has many stories cut due to the time limit.

6. dodo19 (4350) | 8 months ago | Although I don't like the fact that they cut a lot of good stuff from the books, when they turn them into movies, I do enjoy reading the books, as well as watching the movies. I really couldn't say if I have preference, as I enjoy reading the book and watch the movies. Both are really well done. The only thing that I'm disappointed with is that they seem to cut a lot of good plot and events, when they turn the novels into movies. Others I don't really have any complaints.

| 7. drorocks (15) | 8 months ago | I myself don't read much books, I have only read a few Harry Potter books and the intire twilight saga, I prefer the books because it leaves things for your imagination. But at the same time I am a kind of Movie person, love the special effects and it brings book back to live even more, So I am not sure which I would pick of the 2.

8. Bionicman (1569) | 8 months ago | Books. I've read all the books and they were great. Those books are pretty damn big but it never took me more than 2 days to read it.
Movies on the other hand...I've tried to watch it twice. It was so boring I couldn't finish it.

9. paulakool17 (117) | 8 months ago | Hi there. I am a Harry Potter fan and have read all the books and to me, I would really prefer the books over the movies because it is in the book where I exercise my imagination and also because in the movies, the "magic" of the story has been already reduced to fit the duration of the movie. In the book is always the complete story, and so if you really want to know the full story, reading the book is highly suggested instead of just the movie. I am excited to see the movie this July and I hope I would not be disappointed.

10. xsammiex (1239) | 7 months ago | .....i'd really like to say i hate harry potter.. but i don't. i thought i did. i watched the first one ages ago and it was ok but i didn't really like it. since then i've refused to watch any. today, my boyfriend sulked when i told him we couldn't watch the order of the phoenix, so i put it on for him anyway..and i kinda got into it. i didn't tell him that, i would have just completely embarrassed myself saying i wouldn't watch it and then saying actually it's quite good. but i haven't read any of the books, i think i might enjoy them more than the films though to be honest, i do love a good book!
