How Can You Survive the End of the World?  email this discussion to a friend?

That is the title of the latest tract distributed by Jehovah's Witnesses in the neighbourhood. Apparantly it is being distributed world-wide. It is an invitation to their annual convention. The public discourse is "How Can You Survive the End of the World?"

The theme of the end of the world is nothing new for the JW. For some 40 years before 1914 they were telling people that the wicked world would end in that year. Then it was predicted for 1975 or around that year.

But in view of recent world events like, the economic downturn, the swine flue, events in North Korea (ect.), could the "end of the world" really be close?

The title of the discourse seems to suggest that they have a "survival plan" that they want to share with us.

What do you think? Have you received an invitation? Will you go to hear what they have to say?

I googled the subject and found this:

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —

"How Can You Survive The End of the World?" Jehovah's Witnesses invite you to come and listen to the answer. Admission is free and no collections are taken. All the sessions are open to the public.

On Saturday, the text at Habakkuk 2:3 is the basis for the Scriptural theme for the day, ''Keep in Expectation ... It Will Not Be Late.'' A fast-moving series of talks on Sunday morning will examine nine events foretold in the Scriptures and the unparalleled changes to the earth and mankind that they will bring. The morning session will conclude with the public talk ''How Can You Survive the End of the World?'' This presentation will point to what the Bible means when it speaks about the end of the world. It will also explain the urgent action people must take now in order to be among the survivors. A modern-day drama based on Jesus' parable of the prodigal son will lead off the final session in the afternoon.

Estimates are that a total of 9,000 will attend the Johnson City conventions June 12-14 and June 19-21. Attendance figures are announced at the conclusion of each session. Contact Richard Flatt at (423) 246-5551 or (423) 737-1708 (cell) for more information.

Hi 1hopefulman, Personally I'd rather not survive the end of the world, I'd much rather get out of this rat race and be with Jesus. I don't trust what the JW's have to say anyway. I wouldn't want to go to their seminar. It all sounds like scare tactics, to get more converts.

Hi clutterbug! Being with Jesus certainly beats surviving the "end of the world." Nevertheless it was Jesus that said the following so I think it does merit our consideration.

Matthew 24:3-8 (King James Version)

3And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Who would want to survive the end of the world? Not I

When I was a young'un in the army, I took a class, the instructor showed no sign of a sense of humor and we always took diligent notes. Well we were talking about nuclear warfare and what we should do. Every one in the room took notes up to the point where he said..."bend down, put your head between your legs and kiss your a$$ goodbye. You don't want to survive this kind of attack"

He was right

There is a story that the British Army take on surviving a nuclear attack was to advise soldiers not to be in the area when one was taking place. :-)

If we look at the Scriptures the "end of the world" means the end of wicked ones and wickedness and not the end of life or the earth, like in Noah's day. The world of Noah's day endeed but Noah and his family survived.

2 Peter 3:1-10 (King James Version)

1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

personally, I don't expect to be here when this world meets it's ultimate demise. I have no need nor worry of being "one of the chosen" survivors, in fact, only some 144000 are going to be "selected" ( hmm, remember NATURAL selection? survival of the fittest?)anyway. Why get so excited about the "end times", when you have a better chance of winning the state lottery? I'd prefer the lottery winnings, TYVM!
Humans will lay waste to the world WE KNOW, but it will hardly be the END of the Earth itself, just wiping us parasites off the orb, a self cleansing.

It is my firm belief that humans can and will screw up anything and everything, given enough time.

can I send anti-religion texts to those numbers you listed? :) (church lady voice) OOOPs! a little bit a satan round here!

lol

Yes, Revelation chapter 7 but it also says:

Revelation 7 (King James Version)

4And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

9After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

14And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

17For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Notwithstanding the claims of the Kindomites, everyone will survive the end of the world. We are all created in the image and likeness of God who is both spirit and eternal. Nobody will die. However, the issue is WHERE you will dwell forever. With God, or without God.

That is a choice you have to make here and now. Die before you choose and the choice is made by you based on your last choice. If the book is right, most choose to reject God and his merciful sacrifice for all mankind.

God will not force Himself on anyone. We cannot force Him on anyone either.

With all of the sabre rattling of the North Koreans who threaten nuclear weapons use, can the end of the planet be far off?

I am SOOOOOO glad I don't have spend an eternity worrying about where I'm going to spend eternity. Life is Physical, when the life is gone, only worm food lives on, and so the circle of life is complete.

BCMIKE SAID " IF the book is right..."
What book? Who is reading and interpreting said book? And lastly Why on earth would I listen to some pontification preacher, when he is a mere mortal himself? MEN write books with the thoughts and rules of MAN, and not on a very timely fashion (400 years AFTER whatsisname died? what TRUTH?? no one even KNEW him that wrote about him) and I highly doubt god owns a pencil! End Times? LMAO... yeah go get packed, I'll be out in the car (space ship) waiting to leave....

what do we call it when a american wants war? we don't use sabres much, so maybe it will be ASSAULT RIFLE RATTLING???

myLot reputation of 67/100. BCMike (3316)  3 years ago

Well Jodi, something that you cannot take away from me is personal experience.

On March 17, 1974, on Maple Bay Road near Duncan BC, I was killed in a car accident at 16 years old.

Left for dead by ambulance attendants who were assisting a severely injured passenger, I remember not pictures, but every voice I had ever heard in my entire life to that point. I recognized every voice, and where I was when I heard that voice.

Then I was projected through a very black tunnel and regained consciousness and open the door of my car and fell out to a chorus of "You're dead! You're dead!" from my friends who were there.

When your body dies...YOU DON'T. So, I searched until I found a way to have Jesus as saviour. Then I found inner peace. Not before.

You have to decide where you want to spend eternity.

Good luck...

Thanks for your comments but I must point out that not everyone survived the "end of the world" in Noah's day.

2 Peter 2:5,9 (King James Version)

5And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

9The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

myLot reputation of 67/100. BCMike (3316)  3 years ago

We aren't talking about Noah because God said that there would be no more floods but fire. Peter says that the earth will be burned with a ferverent heat. That's the end of the world fire to me.

myLot reputation of 94/100. 1hopefulman (3142)   ranked 24 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

The end of the world does not mean the end of the earth because Jesus said:

Matthew 5:5 (New International Version) Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.

The end of the world means the end of wickedness, the end of Satan's rule of the earth, the end of wicked people. A new world means, God is ruling the earth and righteous people living on the earth.

END TIMES: a means of SELLING SALVATION to the unwitting masses.

myLot reputation of 94/100. 1hopefulman (3142)   ranked 24 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

So true, there are no end to predictions of the end of the world. Still, if you read my earlier reesponses, we see that Jesus' apostles asked questions about the "end of the world" and Jesus did not dismiss their questions but gave detailed signs that we would see to warn us so that we could take action.

I Wont argue with you as you probably srudy ythe bible where I dont.
I have an idea what will happen but not wehn and wont run to anywhere because some one shouts the End of teh world is comeing ... Sure it is but we just might go out like we came in a ball of fire!

lol =D What's the big deal about end of the world?? It has been predicted many times and yet it did not come true at all.. Be it end of world or not, everybody has got to die someday.. It's just a matter of time.. If it meant to happen, it will happen.. Even if we were to survive end of the world, so what?? We are still gonna be alone, and everything is gonna be a fresh start.. Does it really matter that much anymore?? haha =D

myLot reputation of 94/100. 1hopefulman (3142)   ranked 24 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

The Bible tells us that there will be many survivors, all the good people from God's standpoint. So we won't be lonely at all. We will have plenty of good company to rebuild the world into a better place. And everlasting life in a world filled with peaceful, God-and-neighbour-loving people may not appeal to all but it does appeal to me.

myLot reputation of 89/100. GADHISUNU (1467)   ranked 329 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

Will the survivors be all Christians who place their faith in Christ or would they just GOOD people from among the different peoples of the world?

myLot reputation of 95/100. kun2349 (10498)  3 years ago

Good question there.. lol =D I'm looking forward to the answer too.. haha =D thumbup

The survivors of the end of the world would be selected by God, so only He can answer that question but maybe this will help:

Revelation 7:9-10 (New International Version)

9After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10And they cried out in a loud voice:
"Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb."

myLot reputation of 95/100. kun2349 (10498)  3 years ago

lol =D ONly those selected by god will be able to survive end of the world?? Then why are u starting this post in the first place?? lol =D By asking 'how'?? I might be a good guy doing all the good things but i might not even survive if god dun choose me instead, because i dun believe in that religion.. lol =D

i had a jewish friend back in my country and i know how they deal with the people who are not like them (i mean like their faith)
Personally i am not afraid or even worry of end times, i dont call it the "book" i call it "The Bible" it clearly says that there is life after death. There are discoveries or artifacts that were found by the archeologist that proves what the bible says is true .Yes death is a physical death, but remember you have a spirit and soul (unless you believe you dont have it) and where do you think your spirit will go when you die physically? its either the lake of fire (which is commonly known as the hell) or heaven where a second life begin. SALVATION is free and its not financial scheme. you go to hell if you reject Jesus as your saviour or be with Him in heaven if you accept Him as your Lord and saviour. God gave us free will, He wont force you to believe Him that he exist its not HIS lost. Just read the bible and you will find out all about end times and how can you survive it.

myLot reputation of 91/100. lotterylover (7440)   ranked 73 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

Spirit from what I have been able to figure out is my breath. My breath knows nothing.
Now put my breath into my body and I become a living soul. Without a soul I am nothing and will return to dust until Jesus comes back and give me back my breath. I don't want to be in heaven seeing what is going on here on this earth nor do I want to be burning forever in hell if that is my sentence. I don't find any of this belief in the Bible.

myLot reputation of 94/100. 1hopefulman (3142)   ranked 24 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

So why then in answer to the apostles' questions regarding the "end of the world" did Jesus say to "watch" a couple of times in Matthew chapters 24 and 25?

ezekiel71 (71)   ranked 2,934 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

We are trium being, body, soul and spirit. From head to toe thats your body, your soul is your feeling/emotion, intellect, your spirit is your innerman that separates from your physical body when you die. Its your physical body that turns into dust, like we were form from dust adn God breath the breath of life to us.

God said to the apostles to "watch" and take heed that no man deceive you. Because they were asking about the signs of His coming and of the end times, God said false prophet will come and say theyre the Christ and many will believe them and even the elect of God will be deceive.

The Witnesses have many good beliefs about living a life on this earth but they also have many false teachings that I can not go along with, therefore I would be taking what they had to say with a grain of salt. One belief they have I don't go along with is that only the 144 thousand will go to heaven and reign for the 1,000 years while the rest will stay here on earth and convert those who will be raised a second time for another chance at learning about God and being converted. If you have the Mark of the Beast when the 7 last plagues are falling there is nothing you can do to protect yourself. NO matter where you have water it will turn to blood, no matter how much food you have stored up it will get worms in it. Only the people who do not have the Mark of the Beast will be protected like the children of Israel were during the plagues in Egypt.

myLot reputation of 94/100. 1hopefulman (3142)   ranked 24 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

You know, I don't mind living on an earth with God as ruler. It's really not a bad place if there were no bad people doing bad things. If God wants me in heaven, I have no problem with that either. I'll let Him decide.

myLot reputation of 91/100. lotterylover (7440)   ranked 73 out of 6,502 in religion  3 years ago

That does help one to be more at ease with what is going to happen if we just have faith that God will see us through. According to what I read, the righteous will live in heaven for a 1,000 years going over the books to see if God was fair in His judgments. The wicked remain dead until after the 1,000 years are up when God will bring the New Jerusalem down to the earth where we will remain. The wicked will then receive their reward or I guess you would say, punishment.I understand that we will visit other solar systems so we won't be confined to this earth.

I guess this will interest some people but it doesn't do that to me
I don't see death as something to be frightened about
I will not commit suicide or leave this world without a fight
because if I do then I won't learn what I need to learn
death is not the end, and this body is only temporary
when the time comes, my spirit will fly free and that is all I'm yearning for
I'm curious about what we will do on that day, when the world ends
I hope I will be with my loved ones for the last time
and how will it end? is it global warming? is it war? is it some meteors?
that's interesting to find out and provoking creative minds
but certainly not scary- every party will end, every living things will die
I don't care this body survives end of the world or not
my spirit will and I will come back in another body in different place or dimension
I'll make sure I visit mylot then too, if it still exists of course:)

I did not receive any such invitation, and personally I to would not wish to survive the end of the world. If I survived it all my family and friends will be dead and I most likely will be the only one alive it would be like the Will Smith movie where the world ends and it seems like hes the only one left alive(without the monsters)Because I do not like to be alone I would not wish to survive the end of the world I would much rather die.
