Using the best mosquito repellant going...and it ain't deet! |
| |
| For many many years, folks have been using deet and citronella to repel flying insects. The loggers on BC's west coast have been using a ladies product for all of the wrong reasons and have been keeping mosquitos and black flies off of them for a long while. And I had known about this wonder product too. But had forgotten it. Then my wife came home with a big bottle of it. That product? Avon Skin-So-Soft bath oil. My wife poured some on a cloth and wiped it straight on. Thus ended the landing of the mosquitos for her. I later put some on and viola... Me too! No mosquitos. In had been feeling like a veritable smorg for flying things, but not now. I think Avon products are available around the world, so if you want insect repellant that isn't as toxic as deet, then this is the ticket. And guys, you will smell so feminine too! But you won't be bugged by mosquitos... And, you moms and dads can rub this on the kids when they are out doors and they will be protected as well, again without risk. For day travel, wet down a cloth with the SSS and place it into a zip lock bag and you can stick it in purse or pocket when you are out in the open to refresh the repellant if you sweat it off. And, this will assist in keeping away the nasty viruses carried by the little blood sucking ladies of the insect world. And it WAAAAAAAAY cheaper than conventional bug dope too! | | | | | |

| | I have had an Avon rep try to recruit me though... No, I just rediscovered something I had forgotten about. My wife brought the bottle home. Of course, THEN I remembered about it's insect repellant properties. | | | |

| | The stuff works great. I haven't had any in a while, but would love to buy it. Maybe I'll ask my mom to bring it when she comes to visit in the fall if I can't get any before then. I will make her feel useful. I should look for a new Avon lady here because Avon products rock; they're cheep and they aren't tested on animals. Of course the animal testing thing is ultra important for me. I am against vivisection. There is no need to test cosmetics on animals. All the ingredients have been tested time and time again. | | | | | | |

| | I would think you could get it even in Israel. But if for some reason you can't get it from there or family back home, let me know and I will try to get you some from here. | | | |

| | Yes I had known about the Skin So Soft trick as well, but the fragance is too strong for me a gives me a headache. Received this little tidbit in an email today. No More Mosquitoes Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away. Haven't had a chance to try it yet and not sure if my unscented dryer sheets will work. | | | | | | |

| | It is a rather obnoxious smelling, but it works. I wonder if you could add some scent to it to make it more appealing? | | | |

| | What I want to do is get rid of the scent altogether. But it is probably the scent that the mosquitoes don't like. I had a theory that maybe this year the mosquitoes would leave me alone because I'm taking chemo, but has proved false. Maybe they will at least die after they bite me. | | | |

| | I beg to differ. I saw a report on 20/20 where they tested it by rubbing it all over someones arm and sticking the arm in a tank full of mosquitoes. I believe that arm got bit just as much if not more than the arms with the other products. I don't use anything, I just wait until they bite and rub white vinegar on the bite. The best thing to do to keep them from your yard is to get rid of any old tires or water areas they breed in. | | | | | | |

| | Okay...differ if you want to. I will go with what works for me and everybody I know then. That test on 20/20 was an unrealistic environment. In BC, we get rain. We get rain, have swamps and muskeg...and mosquitos. We cannot drain everything here like you might be able to there. And I can do without DDT too thanks. | | | |

| | Very interesting. Thanks, Mike for that info. Right now is a hectic, busy time for me, but as soon as things have settled down (of course I still have to sneak in and pop in here on MyLot now that I'm hooked despite my crazy hours and comign events), but I must send this note of your's on to my family, and we'll have to try it out! Especially some family members are tennis players, others walkers, and I am a feast for mosquitoes, it appears. ;o) Thanks again. | | | | | | |

| | Ooh ooh, and thanks to MyLots, ha ha, ads/advertising, I see that eBay auctions have tons of this product (in individual or batches), esp. if any of you don't have any Avon distributors nearby. :o) I've never actually bought any Avon products, at least tha tI can remember. And you solemn swear that I am not a distrbutor ;o) | | | | | | |
