If you were making a 'mylot' type site what features would it have?

what additions would you make to improve the site and attract more members? i would have a better chat option. pming takes to long and gets frustrating. i would have something more like messenger.

How would you get companies to advertise on the site and increase its revenue?not sure. i don't know a lot about advertising

Would you pass on extra profits to the members,pay yourself more or use the cash to further improve the site? a little bit of all three

I have a few ideas about attracting members and some prettyyy unique features but I would rather keep them to myself if I ever thought of making something like Mylot.

As for your first question, I agree with the first poster about a messenger service. Also, I'd have more people monitor discussions. Well thought out posts earn more than those who give a "canned" answer. Also, I wouldn't tolerate copying and pasting from site without giving credit to the site. I'd also delete posts if someone copied and pasted the majority of their repsonses or discussions.

I'd probably just use google ads and allow visitors to place ads on the site as well for a small fee.

Extra profits would be used among all 3 I think. However, I would have a pay schedule for posts so you know what you could earn. For instance a post that doesn't have any originality and is copied and pasted would get maybe half a cent? One that was well thought out and the person took their time - 3 cents. I think paying people more for more thorough and thought out posts would increase dialogue and lead to better discussions.

As for the last question, like the other poster said, I'd probably just start by using friends and go from there.

I think include every feature you can see in every social networking forum. Initially you may need to pay out to members in order to attract new members.
em.. how to attract members when you could not pay them until the site starting generating revenue, this is tough. I guess include user friendly features and do more promotion by giving out random cash prizes.
