Sad ending on the Hudson for some

Accroding to Yahoo News, the people who survived when Sully Sullenburger landed the disabled plane on the Hudson River are having a rough time because many of their valuables had to be left behind and sank with the plane. The airline was insured by AIG, which is being run by the government now, but there is really another problem concerning airline insurance that everyone who flies often should be aware of. According the the Yahoo: " When a homeowner has a burglary or a driver has a crash, all it normally takes is a call to the insurance company and a description of the loss to activate the policy. But aviation liability insurance is different. It is activated by a finding of negligence on the part of an airline. If there is no negligence, then arguably there is no liability, and no obligation to pay claims." Evidently if US Airways is not held negligent in the incident, the passengers will have no basis for reimbursement for their lost stuff, which includes laptops, luggage, wallets, car keys, etc., etc., Here's the story: http://finance.yahoo.com/insurance/article/107188/aig-balks-at-Claims-from-jet-ditching-in-hudson

I guess that is kinda a drag. But I think it's a good thing that they're here to be upset about it in the first place. They coulda been on the flight that went down in the Atlantic...

Yes there's always a silver lining, but no less frustrating for those people who lost their valuables on the flight.

I know I would not be happy about losing my stuff too. But I'd be happy to be around still. Thanks for best response!

I guess ppl will be thinking twice before taking any valuables on a plane with them. I've always followed the rule, never pack anything that I can't live without, afterall luggage is lost daily. I hope these ppl get their things reimbursed but then I'd just be happy to be alive...a life is alot harder to replace then a laptop. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

That's a good policy, but man referred to in the story was a software executive who probably took his work with him a lot and he lost his laptop in the plane when it went down, so it's not always that simple. Even people who just lost clothing ought to be able to get some kind of relief for their losses.
