Who is your Patron Saint?  email this discussion to a friend?

I was not surprised When I was diagnosed with adenomyosis with endometriotic cyst on right ovary because most of my cousins in my mother side have this kind of illness and they had underwent surgery. My doctors gave me pills to alleviate my menstrual pain and they said it will help reduce the size of my cyst. But after six months my cyst did not decrease in size.

After few visits with my OB-gyne, she told me about the risks of having endometriotic cyst. It can lead to cancer and infertility. That was the time that I got worried.

One day, I chance upon a prayer book and I read the story of St.Peregrine. He is the Patron saint of cancer patients .I remembered that St.Peregrine's shrine is just a stone throw away from my uncle's abode. So, I went there and attended the healing sessions. I have attended healing sessions for the fifth time already and last May 25th I had my ultrasound. I was glad that the size of my cyst reduced from 7 cm to 6.2 cm. aside from attending the healing session every sunday I coupled it with shunning away from eating red meat and processed food. Since then, I became a St.Peregrine devotee.

God bless you for sharing your story, and here's hoping that your cyst goes away altogether.
It took me so long to figure out who was my patron saint (my RCIA classes never mentioned them, so I wasn't aware of them for the longest time), so finally one night before going to sleep, I stared up at the ceiling of my room and said "Okay, whoever up there wants to be my friend, let me know sometime soon." Here's the great part--when I woke up the next morning and got my breakfast, I turned on the TV and put the channel on EWTN, and there just happened to be a discussion on St. Thomas More. I was so happy--not only is he the patron of lawyers and politicians, he's also the patron of adopted children as well, of which I am one. :D
Recently, St. Pio of Pietrelcina has been in my thoughts, and I'm finding that I've been praying more to him than to St. Thomas More. I wonder if it's possible to have more than one patron saint?

wow! I didn't know that St.Thomas More is the patron saint of adopted children . I don't think there's something wrong with having more than one patron saints.

I have at least three.

My first is my namesake: Saint Patrick. My father is Irish, and he named me Patrick. (As sort of a joke, he's told me before that it's about time someone in my family be named Patrick!) I've been taught about Patrick's missionary work and the reality about Patrick, and his great devotion to the Irish people.

My second I chose for my confirmation. Saint Martin of Tours, who eventually became the Bishop of Tours. As a young soldier, he cut his cloak in half for a cold, starving beggar outside of the Gates of Tours. I chose him for my confirmation name.

Finally, as an orator and actor, I researched the patron of my prefered path of work. Saint Genesius was a Roman citizen who played a catachumen in a parodical play about Christianity. One day while performing in front of Emperor Diocletian, the farcisistic baptism got through to him, and he declared himself a Christian. He was decapitated that day for not sacrificing to the gods. I now have a medal of him, and I am proud to have him as my patron. As an actor, it's good to know the Church and God support the profession.

In fact, I pray Hollywood gets a visit from Genesius. (They could use it, could they not?)

good for you that you got healed. but as for me, i dont have any patron saint. simply because i dont believe in saints.

when you pray to saints you are giving the saints the attributes of the Lord when in fact God is the only one who is all-knowing, all-present and all-powerful. the saints were all people once and they are now dead, so i dont think they can hear prayers uttered to them

Our parish priest once said ," Saints are friends of God, you can ask them for help or divine intervention but they can never be God."

I'm glad that you're doing well with your health.. =D just keep faith because it really works =D anyway, I also have a patron saint, her feast day falls on my birthday. Her name is St. Cecilia and this is the reason why i'm named after her. She is the patron saint of the musicians because as far as i know before she died she sang to God. Also my favorite saint would be St. Jude Thaddeus, just referred to by my cousin. He is the forgotten saint, cousin of Jesus and one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. He's the forgotten saint because he's confused with the other Jude (Judas Iscariot) the apostle who betrayed Jesus. =| he's also the patron saint of hopeless and desperate cases, of students and (of those who has no boyfriends, according to my classmate hehe =D) and I'm his devotee because most of my prayers were answered through his intercession and I just feel comfortable through his intercession. Although some of my prayers were not answered, I received something more worth than my personal intentions. =D

He is also my mother's patron saint. When my mother was still single she used to go to St.Jude church in Mediola to pray for a better half.Through St.Jude's intercession, she eventually met my father and they got married. Then, she prayed to him to give her a baby girl, and that baby girl is me ^^

It is good to have a personal saint to be our intermediary to God. I call on St. Jude if I can't find my car key or can't open my gate lock. He responds quickly. I pray to St. Rita if I am in a desperate situation. I invoke the help of St. Therese if my daughters are talking about boys. I talk to St. Francis when I am enjoying gardening and the butterflies and dragonflies come to kiss the wildflowers. I whisper help to St. Michael to defend us from all evil, to St. Raphael to keep us safe in our travel, to all the Heavenly Powers Mary's legion of angels when somebody is in danger. Most of all, I tell the Blessed Mother to keep me warm always.

I also like St.Jude. I read that he is the patron saint of desperate cases.

I picked St. Claire as my patron saint. She is the patron saint in our village.I always greet her whenever I pass by our chapel.I always ask her to pray for my family and me.I do believe that the saints hear our prayers.they pray for us.they listen to our wishes. It doesn't necessarily mean that I don't pray directly to God,I'm asking St.Claire to pray alongside me.I'm not praying to her,but I'm praying with her and asking her to pray for me since I know God listens to the saints' prayers.I hope St.Claire includes I and my family in her prayers.I pray to God and I always ask the Blessed Mother Mary and St.Claire to pray alongside with my family and me.

When I was Catholic, my saint was Andrew the Apostle because of my name and because of my love for eating fish. I love fish.

So what is your religion now? ( sorry for asking, I am just curious) I have close friends from other sect like moslem, protestants, baptist and methodist. One of my friend used to be a baptist but when she moved in to our province she decided to join Roman Catholic. Her reason was, there's no baptist church in our place so she decided to be a Catholic and she joined Lectors' and Commentators' group which we have been a member for more than 10 years.

myLot reputation of 85/100. rogue13xmen13 (10465)  3 years ago

Agnostic. I do not have a religion anymore.

What made you turn back from your former religion? ^^

myLot reputation of 85/100. rogue13xmen13 (10465)  3 years ago

I saw things that the Catholic Church was doing and I did not like it. Also, I look at the Pope and I see the church going downhill.

myLot reputation of 96/100. ilovechocolate (1486)   ranked 148 out of 1,856 in christian  3 years ago

so, you mean , you used to be a practicing catholic?

myLot reputation of 85/100. rogue13xmen13 (10465)  3 years ago

At one time, yes. I do not condone what the church is doing now. I do not like the new Pope. I see the church on a long downhill slope.

I love your story. I have no idea if I have a patron saint. Perhaps I don't need one just yet. It sounds like your Saint found you based on your need. Its wonderful that the cyst is decreasing in size, and also that you found a healing session to attend. I hope that you continue to get better. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Good luck my friend.
