Direction of a flim

Hi friends,
We know,during watching a film,how much we can,the viewer can,involve in it depends on the "direction" of the film.
Last day i watched a film,i really appreciate the director,as he's done a great job as a director,in that film.

Do you note the name of director and the other co-workers behind the film,that you watch?
In your opinion how important is the roll of director in making a film?
