Iranian election was fixed? |
|
What are your thoughts on the recent election in Iran?
Was it fixed or legitimate and what do you think the results will do to Iranian relations with the West?
Hillary Clinton said "The United States has refrained from commenting on the election in Iran. We obviously hope that the outcome reflects the genuine will and desire of the Iranian people."
Was 'refraining from comment' the right thing for the US Government to do?

mike1976 (1102) | 6 months ago | I hope it's genuine and so will most people I think. I haven't really looked into the fraud claims and the Government there are saying it's all down to sour grapes from the losers. Check out my comment to your response on my tagging discussion as at least 1 of your discussions has a tagging problem.

Seriously, I don't see how it can have been a legitimate election, but I'm glad to see America is keeping it's nose out of everyone else's affairs for once. Whether that's because they think that is the right thing to do, or Hilary Clinton thinks she might get another shot at President if she doesn't upset too many people will become clear in time. I'm just glad I don't live in Iran, having seen some of the news coverage.

3. tonyllenium (1949) | 6 months ago | i think the last elections in Iran will be much more than suspicious!!I guess they are not really regular as in other democracy and this can be even underlined by many people in Iran thinking that there was just abig cheat from the last premier and government too in Iran!! I think in many caes is difficult to establish that when you are abroad even if it did not surprise me a lot ...seeing that iRAN IS not a counry where normal rights are respected and many other things in the society is almost difficult and suspicious!!

4. heathcliff (791) | 6 months ago | Noone who calls themselves "Supreme Leader" is going to let an election be in doubt and although he had distanced himself from Ahmadinejad, Khamenei still would rather have him than a reformist like Mousavi. So, yeh, it was fixed.
The result means there is nothing the US can do but sit back and watch. Sure they'll be some crazy CIA plot to stir up the disgruntled average Tehranian, but the US will keep a "hands-of" official foreign policy up until such time that a moderate like Mousavi is allowed to reach out to the West. Besides, eveybody in the world knows what "refraining from comment" really means in this case= "#&%*%#*^ IT!"

5. ra1787 (220) | 6 months ago | I do thing that there are many odds that the election was somehow fixed, Ahmadinehad surely has a lot of followers but given the post poll reaction (many oppositors have been arrested) it is quite sure that all this has been fixed. In my opinion the us has done the right thing to stay out of this, given the fact that doing otherwise would have just stirred up even more the already compromised relations with iran.

6. debrakcarey (1351) | 6 months ago | I seriously don't believe any elections anywhere are the true will of the people these days. As for Hillary refraining...she's just doing what she was told to do by Pres. Obama. Does she have her eye on his job? lol I don't think she has a snowball's chance...as the saying goes. I think he plans on making this his lifelong job.

7. lisan23 (257) | 6 months ago | Honestly... I think it was fixed. Ahmadinejad reminds me of a much wealther (nation wise) Mugabe. Mugabe's been fixing elections for years, and at first you didn't really hear about it. Now it's just common knowledge. And since Iran has something to offer the rest of the world (unlike Zimbabwe) IF this election is fixed I'm sure the UN and other nations will pounce all over it.

9. diamania (1722) | 6 months ago | Refraining from commenting is the same as saying: I don't care a damn, next question please. And in other cases it's a positive answer: Will John transfer to MyLot Moaners? I refrain from commenting= yes he will.
Yes the elections are fixed. it's obvious... loads of people are protesting in the streets saying they don't agree with the results... people don't do this if there is no reason or incentive to do so. I hope its clear for you what i mean mate.

10. sudiptacallingu (7064) | 6 months ago | Its kind of difficult to say…moderates may scream their lungs out and we, the world may love to believe them too, but know Muslims (with all due respect to them)…I think ultimately their religion matters more to them than democracy and moderation and development. The ‘moderates’ are just that…moderates, so expect them to usher in an era of moderation in religious practices too…this thought, might ultimately have not gone down well with god-fearing people. so though people might have overwhelmingly liked the moderates to come on, they probably did a rethink or were influenced by the priestly class on the fate and future of their religion, if the moderates were voted to power. Also, Ahmadinejad has stuck to his guns vis-à-vis USA (nuclear arms, included) and that is a huge plus point in his favour for the Iranian people. Hillary Clinton was ‘right’, yes I definitely think that she has shown correct diplomacy.
