| A lot of people don't realize this: And does wicked add to this, in anyway? | | | | The Wizard of Oz was an allegorical metaphor. The silver slippers are supposed to be silver. Hence Dorthy in the Wiz has silver slippers. She was the commoner taking the silver backed money issue to the white house in the emerald city (Washington) on the yellow brick road. 10th grade U.S. History lesson to follow: Summary: the little people we just that; all the committees and guilds that could do nothing about the issue. W. T. Boise is the cowardly lion as he was coined as such in political comic-catures of the time. Along the golden money road there are poppies (a.k.a. drugs: that cloud the issues. The good witches are the good voters of the north and south. The "wicked" witches are the banks and the railroads. The bird monkies being freed from the clutches of the evil witches in the wiz are the slaves economic freedom: The horse of many colors is the president trying to look like he is in control. What does "Wicked" have to add to this back story. | | | | | | | | | | Washington DC Area Houses for Sale Search 66,000+ DC, VA, MD Home Listings, Updated Daily! 6.9M Photos. www.ZipRealty.com

| | I know The Wizard of Oz has been interpreted as a political and or economic statement. But was there anything by Baum himself stating that this was so? I'm not an expert, by any means, but what little I've read indicates that Baum was just interesting in telling stories to his "little readers". But even if there were political overtones deliberately inserted into the book, that doesn't mean that Wicked was continuing in that same vein. But I'm a lot less familiar with Wicked (read it once) than I am with the original Oz books. | | | | | | | | angoleiro (83)

| | I didn't know. I Googled it. I didn't find anything. I admit I didn't have the time to turn it into a full out research project. :-) | | | | | | | Washington DC Area Houses for Sale Search 66,000+ DC, VA, MD Home Listings, Updated Daily! 6.9M Photos. www.ZipRealty.com | add comment | | | |

| | Wicked does not follow exactly the same storyline as The Wizard of Oz. It is written focusing on Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West), rather than on Dorothy. It follows Elphaba's journey through life as an outsider. The book is a commentary on good and evil and is well worth a read. | | | | | | | | angoleiro (83)
