Would you like to live like the rich and famous? |
Sometimes we envy the rich and famous. The cost of a meal for them costs more than a week of our meals. Their cars cost more than our house. Their designer goods cost more than our salary. They travel in style, and seem to enjoy golf and party while we work so hard in our cubicle. Yet they do not enjoy the privacy that we have. The reporters twist their words, and protray them as tactless and speaks only to hurt others. Whenever they do something wrong, the reporters will exaggerate, and highlights their mistakes to all. Even their family members do not enjoy as much privacy as us. Do you like to live like the rich and famous? Do you envy their lifestyle, despite knowing that they do not have as much privacy as us?

1. arcidy (4974) | 7 months ago | Well I would love to be rich someday so I can provide for my family and it would be a lot easier for me to do so if I was rich. However I dont really want to be famous I woudnt like people coming up to me where ever I go. I mean first it would be cool then it would get annoying after awhile.

scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi Arcidy, same here, I want to be rich but not famous, can't bear to have reporters taking pictures of me in casual wears, and write about it for the whole world to see. I think those rich and famous cannot afford to gossip about anyone or to quarrel with their family members in public. It's a shame. They can't even scold their children for misbehavior! The newspaper will report "xxx scolds his children in public", then all the nonsense about human rights, self-esteem etc.

Ingkingderders (1069) | 7 months ago | I agree! I just want to have the rich part. I think being famous is a great advantage, cause you can help a lot of people and you have this kind of power. But having your life under a microscope is not at all fun.. I don't want to have people following me wherever I go..plus I have a short temper, so if I became famous I would probably be always on the front page of the tabloids, with a picture of me throwing a shoe or a bag to the cameramen. LOL!
| |
scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | haha Ingking, I bet all the newspaper will send reporters to follow you around, and to watch how you lose your temper. Those reporters are very well-trained to make famous people lose temper. They just have to make up some rumors, or to misquote your words! I bet your family members will really live as if they are in hell! Can't imagine the teasing your kids will suffer, whenever your pictures come out in the paper.

scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi Ckyera, I agree with you that I do not want to lose my privacy. Once I read Sam Walton's book, about his struggle to build Walmart, and life after Walmart went public. Even a simple trip to the barber became the news in the newspaper. Sam was very direct in his book. He said "where else can I cut my hair?" I think those reporters were really stupid, what's so great about a guy going to the barber shop for a hair cut! I do not think that the rich has more problems than us. I think the problems they face is different from ours, beyond our comprehension. Surely a person who knows how to get rich in the first place, will know how to maintain his wealth.

scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi rrdelacruz84, same here, I also want to be rich, but not famous. Actually come to think of it, it's very hard to get rich without being famous. Even when the rich does not appear in the newspaper as much, all the people in town knows about them, and gossip about them. Any remarks from them will spread like wildfire. They do not even have the freedom to say "this rotten coffee" without financial problem for the seller. I think your girlfriend will kill you, if the reporter catches her when she just wakes up, and the newspaper shows how awful she looks like before washing her face and brushing her teeth.

scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi Nzal, if the media reports on all the good things about the singers or actress, then that's not so bad. But the media seems very eager to report on all the untruth, all the rumors that are potentially hurting, plus all the speculation about who is friendly towards who. All these are useless information. That's the price to pay for being famous. It's a horrible price, not worth paying!

5. LilPixelle (618) | 7 months ago | No I would not like to live like the rich stereotypically do, Personally I would make different choices, not too many differences though, I would invest in business, and follow tips like renting a nice car for a fun weekend instead of getting a new 30,000 dollar car every four years, (and drive a regular car like everyone else the rest of the time) I would probably live in a typical 20,000-200,000 dollar home, and would probably send my kids to a private school..... Personally I think the public has a very twisted perception of how the rich live and should live... everything looks easy until you have to do it yourself.
| |
| |
scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi LilPixelle, I think that will depend on how rich a person really is. If a person is a billionaire, and his company can generate a few billions in a year, he is not likely to rent a car. I doubt he will even want a 30,000 dollars car. If he is so rich, and does not spend his money, everyone will say he is a miser. Anyway, we should all live within our means. A billionaire who lives in a million dollars house is still living within his means. For us, common people, we should also live within our means, so that we can be happy every day.

6. dragon54u (9739) | 7 months ago | There is no way I could live like that, even for a day! I value my privacy and I don't think my personal life or my family is anyone's business. You couldn't pay me enough to live that lifestyle! Heck, they can't even get married in peace because the media sends helicopters to crash the wedding! They can't even die with dignity, either. No way would I live like that.
| |
| |
scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | haha dragon54u, I like your description. You do make the "enviable" lifestyle of the rich and famous sounds so horrible. It's true that nothing the rich and famous do can escape the eyes and ears of the public. The media is really horrible, doesn't know how to respect the privacy of people. Once during lunch, my colleagues were talking about Princess Diane, and all the rumors surrounding her death. They speculated on her relationships with whoever. I was not interested in talking about her or anyone else. Really pity her, even after her death, so many people spread rumors about her extramartial relationships. My colleagues asked me for my opinion. I just said that I do not want to comment on the personal life of anyone, including the rich and famous. How they live their lives are not my concern.

7. rogue13xmen13 (7296) | 7 months ago | Not really. I would like to have a little bit of money to buy things and live relatively well, but I would not want to be famous. Being famous means standards and fulfilling certain obligations that I know I would not be able to fill.

scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi Rogue, I agree having more money is good. And being rich is great, provided nobody knows how rich you are, and nobody cares where you go for dinner. In Singapore, the older folks are very protective of their private matters. Their children do not even know how rich they are. Sometimes when a seemingly poor old lady dies, people are shocked to hear that she had a few houses. I think these are the ones that live better than those rich and famous.

scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi ItsJeezus, totally agree with you, when I'm enjoying myself playing the slot machine in the casino, the last thing I want to think about is money. The rich does not have to pay attention to the money in the wallet. They can feed in notes after notes, then play for hours. Too bad I'm not rich, I have to keep checking how much money I have in my wallet, and pray that the jackpot comes soon.

9. cobra1368 (518) | 7 months ago | I envy the rich part, yes. But I would rather not be famous. I'd like to be able to do whatever I want, when I want, and not have an entourage of papparazzi recording my every move.
I would be lying if I said I wouldn't like to have the money to travel the world and to buy whatever I want, regardless of the cost.

scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | Hi Cobra, me too, I love to be rich, and envy them for spending money to buy what they want, knowing that there are still a lot of money in the bank. I hate the "famous" part too. Rather to have no one watching me whenever I'm not sitting very gracefully. Sometimes sitting with the legs up is so comfortable! Can't imagine the rich and famous do that!

cobra1368 (518) | 7 months ago | On a Saturday morning, when I realize that hubby and I are out of something we use to make breakfast, I like to be able to just throw on gym shorts and a tank top, slide on flip flops and just go to the store quick. I look absolutely terrible, but no one cares! I don't end up with my picture in a dozen magazines, pointing out how terrible I look!
That would be something I would definitely not like if I was famous! LOL
| |
scheng1 (1695) | 7 months ago | haha Cobra, fortunately you are not famous, and your husband is not running for the USA Presidential race. That picture of yours will definitely create uproar, and kills any chance of your husband getting into White House. It's true that we are so fortunate to live a carefree life, without need to watch over our shoulder.

| 10. boulevard313 (1) | 7 months ago | I would not mind living the rich and famous lifestyle. The only main downside that many people bring up is the whole privacy issue. I grew up with 5 brothers and now live in a college dormitory with hundreds of other people. We share everything but our bedrooms and there is absolutely no privacy. If any of those famous people out there would like to trade with me, I'd be more than happy to oblige.
