i was thinking today about what a great invention the mp3 player is. we can fit thousands of songs on to a device that's smaller than an audio cassette.

i remember owning one of those portable cassette players, a walkman. it was a small, slim model but was still bulky compared to the biggest ipod and i had to also carry a large amount of cassettes whenever i wanted to take my walkman on a train journey or to the beach.

do you still own a walkman, if so do you still use it?
do you know anyone who still uses a walkman?

i doubt if many people choose to use them nowadays. maybe as an emergency if their ipod breaks down but i can't think of any other reason.

I don't know what happened to my walkman. I loved that thing.. always used to go walking with it. I wonder if you can still get them? Be cheaper than an ipod.

Yeah I've got a walkman lying around somewhere. I never use it though, ipods are much more handy, and pretty much all my cassette tapes I now have on CDs. I do sometimes listen to cassettes in my car though, because my car is pretty ancient and doesn't have a CD player. But yeah, carrying around tapes was such a hassle, but at the time my walkman seemed pretty small. But now it seems like the hugest thing ever. I think I might have to go find that thing now...

hahaha i found mine last night and played an old cassette, the sound is terrible compared to an ipod but they were a must have in their day lol

I remember my first walkman--it was actually my parents', but I kept "borrowing" it as a kid. I didn't have many cassettes, but I listened to them all the time!

Since then, I haven't had much luck with electronic devices--mine all tend to short out or the wiring goes bad and it overheats. That being said, I have had SEVERAL portable CD players that gave up the ghost, but I've only shelled out the cash for one mp3 player. Once it died, I decided to just stick with my PC and my car's CD player for listening to music.

i wish i could just use my phone but the earphones are too uncomfortable, i can't use my choice of earphones in my phone. i use an ipod and i think it's a miracle how we can store so many songs on something smaller than a cassette happy

Yes, I still have one.
But I don't use it anymore.
Probably because I am home so often.

myLot reputation of 89/100. Margajoe (2140)   ranked 2,722 out of 9,154 in listening to music  7 months ago

lol
I was on a train once with my MP3 player.
I always carried extra battery's with me, because
the battery's wear out so fast.
I put my hand on my purse while looking outside and listening
to my music. Suddenly I found it was very hot.
"In the middle of the summer, they don't put on a heater in a train?"
Is what I thought. And I was right.
There was smoke coming out of my purse!
I had a nail cutter in between two battery's!!!w00t
That can give a nice effect.Hot Hot Hot!!!!

I have not seen one in ages, although I have two in my computer room. The last I used them was several years ago when I worked at a preschool and could give them to kids to listen to stories.I know people who use portable personal cd players, though. Just about the same. I have a MP3 player, somewhere, but not sure where. I do not do much with portable music. It was given to me as a gift.

myLot reputation of 68/100. robert67 (1341)   ranked 589 out of 9,154 in listening to music  7 months ago

i travel a lot by train so i used my walkman a lot...i also spent a small fortune on batteries! mp3's are much better and we don't have to worry about the battery running out as much as they did in walkmans happy
