Same-sex partners to get fed benefits

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama, under growing criticism for not seeking to end the ban on openly gay men and women in the military, is extending benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.

Now I don't know about hat you think but I think it is about time the goverment started seeing gay people as everyone else. I am glad that they will be getting the benefits they deserve. The article went on to say:

"The president agreed that ... the policy wasn't working for our national interests, that he committed to change that policy, that he's working with the secretary of defense and the joint chiefs on making that happen," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said last month.

It's about time a president made a positive impact on the gay issue. I have alot of gay friends and they are no different than anyone else. Why should they be denied health benefits just because they are gay. Why is it the only employer that makes that difference is the federal government. It is not like if they worked at Ford or CBS they would get full benefits. Why does our government jobs make that difference with the don't ask don't tell policy. How do they know anyway?
