Does He Think I Know Nothing?

Hello Theresa! Oh, sorry to hear about loosing all the important data in your computer. I'm not sure how am I going to handle this kind of situation because normally when I give my opinion and they don't seems to care about it, I just moved on. And if its happen that my opinion is right, I'll just hope that next time they will listen to me.

Well my mom is pretty stubborn. Everytime i'm sick she would always go to the "milder" sickness. Like when i'm not feeling well, for her it's just colds when it's already a high fever. Then i got measles for the second time in my life. She thought it's just mild fever. Then there's this skin problem i had and it's kind of depressing me already and she gave me soap. I had enough so i told her "if i die because you didn't listen, there's nobody else to blame but you". Well she's still like that but i have grown up so i'm taking care of myself alone.

Ah! How they love to dismiss us! I have the same problem with my husband. I think that he doesn’t want to hear me out because of it hurts his precious male pride and when it turns out that I’m right, he does not want to discuss it.

I’ll give you an example: my hubby decided to lay floorboards in our lounge area and in one of the bedrooms. He had problems from the start because as he was clicking the boards together the ones he laid previously would pop up so I suggested he put a weight on the row previous to the he was working on. Good advice? I thought so, but no, no, no Mr Man would have none of it and snapped at me to let him be and that he knew what he was doing.

Well lo and behold; he finished one entire room only to discover that the boards weren’t properly in place. At this point he was very upset and quite angry. I knew what the problem was but said nothing and mumbled something about going shopping instead.

I was gone about two hours and when I returned, there he was; he had lifted all the boards and started all over again. This time it was working perfectly because, you guessed it; he used a weight on the row previous to the one he was working on!

Had he listened to me in the first place he would have saved himself almost a day’s work!

BTW, the floors turned out great! Eventually...

Hi Hornet! Glad you seem to be back up and running! Frustrating when the computer acts up, isn't it? You didn't say what the problem ended up being, but is sounds like it may have been a virus? Unfortunately, reformatting the hard drive, whether you do it or the technician does it will lose your data. Sometimes there isn't a way around it. If you have sensitive data that you don't want to lose, you might consider getting some sort of backup. That way if you have to reformat again, your data is saved and ready to go when you are.
As far as your husband not placing value of your opinion...I think we married brothers. My husband rarely listens either. After the fact when I sit and stare at him, he will usually (grudgingly) admit that he should have listened. I then tell him that we'll mark the event on the calendar and celebrate it every year. The way I see it, eventually we'll have something to celebrate every day...lol.

If you had reformatted the hard drive, you'd have lost all the data as well. Reformatting wipes out ALL information on the disk and prepares it to receive new programs. It is like being new again. I'm sorry you had to pay to repair it, but both choices would have deleted everything. Did they find out what was wrong? Was it a virus?

after awhile,i tune them out when they ask for help again.
if they accuse me of stuff when i try,i don't need that.
i'm sorry they're upset,but they don't need to take it out on me.

It hurts when your own hubby doesn't respect your opinions.
The good thing now is that he is beginning to realized that most
of the time you are correct. Maybe he will start trusting your
judgement from now on.

It makes me so angry when my hubby doesn't listen to me, even if I don't know what I'm talking about he should hear me out. Just know that he is the inconsiderate one... it has nothing to do with you, men just sometimes tune people out.... then life, or a computer in your case, slaps them in the face and says listen up, and they come around again. Don't worry the universe wont let them get away with it too long. At least he came around and realized that he should have let you reformat the computer.

I totally understand where you are coming from whenever i get into that type of circumstance I let the other person handle it on their own. then when all is done I let them come back and apologize. my mother always told me bought wisdom is better than told

Obviously, this tech needs some more training. I work in the IT Department of the Southwest Texas Junior College where most of are techs are attending students. None of them have EVER cleared out an entire hard drive. I would, if it was me, call that place, give a formal complaint about the tech and ask for a full refund because that is just ridiculous. Then, I would sit down and have a talk with your husband. Tell him that this is a two way street and sometimes he just has to step aside and let you handle it. Tell him to get off his high horse because, obviously, he isn't always right. I wish you luck with recovering your system. Such a shame.
