Sorry, I can't help you. I AM a woman and I don't understand them. It's bizarre, I know, but I've never really understood the games women play or the attitudes some women have. I don't really think there's a difference between being seen in a bikini or a bra and panties, myself. Heck, most girls I know are more covered in their underthings than their bathing suits -- haven't figured that one out yet to be honest. I go to the beach to enjoy the sand, sun and water... not to be gawked at. I wear a 1 piece.

I think you are so right...the bras and panties cover the same thing, depending on the fabric. I don't think my husband has had that situation happen. I remember we used to own a women's clothing store and I think I would laugh if some woman came out in her bra and panties. I think the only thing that would get me upset was being nude. Now that would upset me.

It's true. It defies logic. I had this very conversation with my daughter a couple days ago. We went to the beach. And she asked why we couldn't take our shirts off. She said our underwear are just like bathing suits. My answer was...Just Because! It's DIFFERENT! lol

I rarely wear skimpy clothing - and I don't understand women who do. Why they wanna show soo0o0 much skin is beyond me!

I love to swim but I usually wear a once piece and board shorts (YEAP! I'm old school like that).

Here's a question for ya (and for other men in the room) - why is it that I'm almost always covered and I still get "that look" (sometimes it's appreciated, but lately it's like dude! are you undressing me or something?)? And when I go running - why do guys whistle? That's so annoying and very disrespectful!

HAHAHA:) This is so true. Its so cute, guys think this way I really didn't know:p anyway, I think the difference between bras and undies from bikini swim wear isn't really the actual material of which they are made. The difference is more on the "psychological" aspect. Bikini swim wear are obviously used in public places, that's why its okay for girls to be seen in those things. But the bras and panties, it isn't just worn anywhere-- its an intimate apparel. We think that if other people see us wearing bra and panties, the feeling is different- were shy because its not meant to be seen by just anyone. I hope you get what I'm saying here:)

BOTTOM LINE: THE DIFFERENCE IS MORE ON THE PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECT, NOT THE LITERAL ONE:)

Okay I have analysed this question and I cannot come up with an answer except what cannette1 said, “Because”.

Seriously, underwear such as bra and panties is personal and to be seen only by me and my special other whereas a bikini is an item of clothing one wears on a hot day at the beach or pool to save going naked which would be unacceptable, against the law and in some cases quite horrifying. Come to think of it a bikini can be pretty scary sometimes…

I think it's about control and shock, when you walk in on someone in a bra and panties, they get a bit/lot shocked, it's out of their control, but when they are in a bathing suit, they have deliberately put that on to go outside in, therefore people are allowed to look. Its social conditioning really, boys aren't supposed to see your underwear without your permission.
