You Can Tell Tom Daschle to Butt Out!! |
| |
| I just signed a petition to tell Tom Daschle, President Obama's original choice for Secretary of Health and Human services, to stop undermining a pubic health care option as part of health care reform. Below is the message I received after signing the petition with the advice to send the e-mail below to everyone I know. I hope you don't mind that I have copied it here for anyone who is interested in taking action. Subject: Tell Tom Daschle: Don't undermine a public health care option. Dear Friend, Tom Daschle was President Obama's pick to be Secretary of Health and Human Services - and with his extensive healh care background, many lauded this as an excellent choice. Who knew he'd sell public health care down the river a few months later? Of course, the nomination went south after it came to light that Daschle had over $100,000 in unpaid taxes on such things as a private car and full-time driver. So Daschle went back to his gig as one of the founders and board members of the Bipartisan Policy Center - a DC think-tank that Daschle founded with Bob Dole and two other former senators. And guess what? The BPC has extensive funding ties to the insurance and pharmaceutical industries. Mr. Obama ran for president on a very strong global warming platform which achieved the 80% reduction, launched a cap and trade market without giving away free permits to polluters, and set strong standards for boosting clean renewable energy. Special interests are warping his pledge almost beyond recognition. So maybe we shouldn't be surprised that, on June 17, Daschle and Dole went to bat for the Bipartisan Policy Center's supposed "solution" to the health care battle - letting states administer public insurance pools instead of the federal government, and nixing a public health care option (like Medicare) if that's what's needed to pass a bill. I just signed a petition to tell Tom Daschle to stop undermining the importance of a public health care option - a public option is vital to real reform, and Please have a look and take action. http://act.credoaction.co... (End of message) I especially agree with the sentence - "We can't give moderates any excuse to wimp out." Do you agree? Annie | | | | | |

| | Agree whole heartedly. American's should be able to have health care like the rest of the developed world. Obama is president in part because of his agreement with this. For those who simply say the government can run anything correctly and use that as an excuse, I think they are saying the U.S. is not as good as other countries and really is an unpatriotic thing to say. Just my two cents.. | | | | | | |

| | Thank you! I agree with you completely. I'm also so grateful for your response so I can correct my boneheaded typo in my post. That was supposed to say "PUBLIC" health, not "pubic"...lol! My "L" key seems not to work now and then. Annie | | | |

| | Daschelle has about as much credibility with me as most of the rest of D.C. and I think you know what that means with me annie. I am pretty fervantly oposed to a broad and sweeping change to our healthcare system, I think you know that, but it is for reasons that are far beyond the scope if this thread. | | | | | | |

| | I know, I know, X... I'm pretty disappointed in Daschle myself. As YOU know, I fervently believe we NEED a broad and sweeping change to our health care system. I was hopeful that it might finally happen but I'm now starting to fear the insurance and pharmaceutical companies will win out again. What's 18,000 or so deaths a year compared to them losing some of their obscene profits? Annie | | | |

| | I guess it's a good thing that the taxes owed became an issue, I didn't know that he was being paid by the insurance and pharmaceutical companies. I really think that would be a conflict of interest lol I am all for health care reform since my crappy insurance is like not even having any at all. I'm headed that way now to check it out. | | | | | | |

| | I was honestly so disappointed when the back taxes became an issue because I'd really believe he would be a good one to work on health care reform. Who'd have thought he'd be teamed up with Bob Dole against what nearly three-quarters of the American people want! I'm about to post another discussion about health care with a way to contact your own Senators and find out where they stand on this issue. Annie | | | |

| | I signed it, too. I'm so glad you posted it here. I never thought of that. There are so many people who use ERs as private physicians now because ERs cannot refuse to treat them. It makes the ER practically non-functional for real emergencies. I hope Obama can get this done. We so need it. | | | | | | |
