People do things and expect something in return?? | | Quid pro quo= something for something; that which a party receives (or is promised) in return for something he does or gives or promises. You don't have to read the rest of my rant, just respond if you do things and expect something in return.
I know that there are some people who don't really expect anything in return for good deeds they do. But generally, this is how human operate, they expect something in return whether they admit it or not. (Am I being cynical?) It is a fact that people do good deeds for they believe that blessings will come to them in the process. "So what's wrong with that!" you ask.
This is something that's been bugging me after the Sunday church topic. I don't like talking about religion but I got to spit this one out. It occurred to me that people have their salvation because they are promised heaven and eternal life. Sure, it is a huge motivating factor, it's like believing that there's a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Just like raising kids and get them to do tasks and giving them some form of reward. IF there's no reward, will the kid do what he is asked? will people even bother to stick and practice their faith?
So even religion dictates quid pro quo. Is it possible that people would just do things out of love without thinking of everlasting life? That whether you go to heaven or not, it's ok and as far as you are concern you try to do good the best you can.

It's just normal for us human being to give/help and expect something in return but I guess there is also some exception to that. If we tend to help others, the feeling is so nice that hard to explain. It's like money can't buy. Making anybody or somebody happy is really an accomplishment. And seeing them that they really appreciate of what you did to them is something that you can be proud of and thankful at the same time.

| | 2. ShellyB (3008) | 6 months ago | It is hard not to make Quid pro quo= something for something part of religion when for instance in the bible there are many quotes based on it. I believe it is ingrained in christianity and well it is a basic believe, accept Jesus in your heart and be saved, do this and be save, etc, etc, I am sure people do not think often of it as exchanging things with God, as God does not need anything, but it is like a promise to us, something greater for just loyalty and blind faith. In most of our relations the same applies, I am sure it will be a better place, planet, town if we did things out of love but the thing is we expect good things back for our good deeds.

People normally expect something in return for something they did to someone, but sometimes i think it is also a very nice thing that not expecting return from those people you help. You would feel greatful and thankful when you see someone smile because of your help.

For instance, i'll purchase you a plane ticket to come back home to see a dying grandpa. But if I need to vent to you at 3 o'clock in the morning about a bad day im having...you better pick up.. well that's how i see things. I don't expect to get back as much as I give...But I do expect you to be there for me and hear me out on my time of need.

People have always done favor for someone hoping that others will do the same for them. What we do not know is that we miss the BEAUTY of the giving part. We miss the joy we feel when we don't expect something in return. Life is too short. Let us make the full use of it. Be happy and give without expecting something in return.

Yes, for me, people always expect something in return for something that they did. It can be a favor to be returned in an instant, tomorrow, or in the future. It is also related to the concept that "No man is an island." People will always need others. Sometimes, it can be an advantage and sometimes not.

| | 7. peedielyn (714) | 6 months ago | This is a good one! I totally understand the concept with this. I am poor and have been pretty much my whole life. I realized early on that you don't always get what you want and for a while there I decided you weren't going to get much out of me because I wanted something in return. I don't do that now. You can't always get what you want.....that pretty much goes without saying. On the religion aspect, I always wondered about that. I was raised that if you do good things, good things come back to you. If I am honest, and giving, and trustworthy then I will lose my friends (they hate it when I tell them the truth),lose my car (because if i let you use it and you break it, I have to pay for that), and hear about your obsessive affair with a married man (I am so trustworthy that you have to tell me everything). that is a negative look at a positive thing, but it comes from experience. I do some things out of love and then I get taken advantage up (the car getting broke was true). I have tried to turn the other cheek, be a good listener, be honest, and do the best I can in every situation I get into. I don't see the pot of gold, or heaven as they call it, but I feel good most of the time that I am not out there hurting people--hey, maybe that's my good out of giving....hmmmm...Now I think I am the cynical one. Happy Mylotting!

We help those little kids for heaven. We give love to our relatives, so that if God forbid, we need them some day we can call on them in exchange for all the love. Its stupid to deny that. Quid Pro quo.....

I think that most people do the very best they can. Sometimes we strive and fail, but most of us are not ill-intentioned. Whether or not one even believes in heaven, it isn't necessarily a consideration for most of us.
