English language and your own dialect......

English is my first language, but I can relate to what you're saying. When I took spanish classes, it was a struggle to put sentences together, at least to me.

I think your English is really good though. Keep up the hard work because it's paying off.

im not English, but im a good writer and speaker of English..i scored an 'A' in English in both my elementary and high schoo education..a tough grade to attain mostly in boys as ladies find it easy..so im never that bothered with it.im good thanx ..

It seems to me that English is one language that is spoken by most people quite easily and I do enjoy learning other languages but they are not as used as English in conversation. Cheers!!

I would say that i can not speak English fluently as in in correct pronunciation and tone. Sometimes i can write English grammatically correct sometimes not. English is also part of our National language next to Tagalog.
I don't try to talk in English even just talking with my sister or brothers who sometimes talk in English.
I prefer to write according to you that you have time to think and edit what you are going to say. The disadvantages of written English is that you have to spell it correctly, unlike oral English that as long as someone can understand your word it is just okay.

English is my mother tongue but I understand what you are trying to say. I knew a girl at university that was from Lancashire. She had a strong dialect and she got 'was and 'were' mixed up all the time. The English lecturer didn't like the way she spoke. She ended up getting a First Class Honors degree. When I was a child I had difficulty understanding what a Scottish lady from Glasgow was saying.

I notice that My Lot members come from many different countries. I can think of some members that joined around the same time as me. Their writing in English has improved considerably. Some members are trying so very hard to be understood and I admire their effort. I am learning Spanish and it is not always easy. I find the words for 'left' and 'right' challenging to remember.

back in highschool, i really enjoyed reading a lot of english books and watching english television shows. i think that helped me a lot in my english. but the first time i have ever made a conversation with a person of different nationality was already during my university days. i think my written english was okay even back then, grammar and all. but my verbal english needed a lot of improvement... especially coming from a town with a strong local accent.

i could not say that i struggled, but i really did try to study english both written and oral. i was really nervous when i first trained to become a trainer... coz that involves a lot of speaking in the english language. but those can be learned, just needs practice and more interaction.

mylot can be that one place to practice english and interact with international members. since the medium used is english, we can't do much except to write and discuss in english. now that helps a lot in practicing the language.

hello there mobhomeir... i like my own language here in the Philippines. the English language is the universal language(well that is what i have heard) that i why in school we were taught the English language. and maybe because we were colonize by Americans before that is why we were taught the English language. i think you should love first your own language before you like other language.It is one way of telling or showing the world that you love your country.

English is my first language, but I can understand the struggle in trying to learn a foreign language. Even though I love learning Japanese and have been taking classes for three years, it can be pretty difficult. It is very time-consuming, as it requires a lot of memorization, just like any language.

I like that people can practice the language they're trying to learn online, on sites such as myLot. I should probably do that more on Japanese websites, though I sometimes think I'm going to use incorrect sentence structure and seem silly, ha ha. Any practice is good practice though.

hmm..from what i've seen, i don't think you have a problem in English lol you're doing very well. i have a similiar reason with you for joining a site like mylot, and i'm happy because of that. i got many western friends who really helped me improve my english, thanx to them.

i do use a slang too sometimes, and i love to have a conversation with them my online friends in yahoo messanger, talking and writing actually. it helps me alot really..

i almost never had an english languange course, i prefer practising it directly with a conversation, but still learning the grammar and vocabularies too..keep it goin, your english is great mobhomeir

Hi, mobhomeir. First, I wanna say you expressed yourself quitely clearly. That means you've already had a good command of English. So don't bother yourslef by thinking you're not good at writing English. As to spoken English, I suggest you practising more. There is a proverb in my country saying "practice makes perfect". I'm sure you'll get it. So just keeping going!

English is not my mother tongue but I've been learning it since middle school and now I'm an English teacher. I really liked learning English at the very beginning. I've read a lot of original English novels and spoke English almost every day.
There are members from different countries here. We're all here to sharpen English writing skills as well as earn some bucks. As long as we keep trying, we'll make great progress. Good luck and happy mylotting!
