Personally, I do not like the way mr Yates handled The Order of the Phoenix. It was the shortest movie and yet it was based on the longest book. He cut away too many essential parts and made it too fast paced. I tried to view the movie as someone who not have read any books would. It is my opinion that a movie based on a book should carry itself in such a way that you would understand the basic plot at least, without having to read the book it is based on. The movie should be able to stand on its own. Had I not read The Order of the Phoenix, I would have understood nothing.
As I said, it was far too fast paced. It was like the movie could be summarized like this:
*Harry gets chased by dementors
*Harry goes to Hogwarts and meets an evil professor
*Harry and friends are practicing Defence Against the Dark Arts, even though its against the rules
*Harry has a nightmare or two
*Dumbledore leaves Hogwarts
*Evil teacher tries to crucify Harry and friends, gets owned by centaurs
*Lucius Malfoy wants a snow globe, or at least a prophecy that looks like one
*Sirius dies
*Voldemort vs. Harry and Voldemort vs. Dumbledore
*The end
With this in mind, I am sure that The Half-Blood Prince will be quite awful. It seems like it is more about special effects than a real story. Also, several important persons are cut, like Fleur and Bill, Scrimgeour, Kreacher and Dobby, Fudge and the Dursleys.
Mr Yates even removed Dumbledore's funeral, most of the Slughorn's memories sequences, and instead added Death Eaters attacking the Burrow.
I can not accept so many changes in this movie, especially since the changes are quite large. Why is it so hard to stay true to the books? I understand that you can not add*everything* from the books, but this is getting ridiculous.
My personal favorites of the movies are The Philosopher's Stone and The Chamber of Secrets, as these movies stay very true to the books and also have some kind of magical feeling to them. They were very well made. I would have preferred if Chris Columbus continued as a director for the Harry Potter series, but unfortunately that is not to be.
So what do you think about David Yates' version of the movies? Do you feel that he does a good job or a not so good one? Is there any director you would rather see directing the movies? Which is your favorite movie and why?It will be interesting to hear your opinions on this matter, but of course you do not have to answer the above questions. Feel free to write whatever you wish.

Nice discussion, I think all movies get pwned since the Prisoner of Azzy, I hope it's not the same with Deathly Hallows, but who knows.. ALL the movies are BADLY edited...:(

I agree with you totally. My daughters and I read the Order of the Phoenix before we ever saw the movie, but my sons did not and they had no idea what was going on half the time. We were watching it on DVD thankfully because I had to keep stopping it to explain what was happening to them and why. If we were in the theatre, I'm sure a lot of people would have been pretty ticked off at us for talking so much, plus I wouldn't have seen much of the movie either. I find that the first two movies were fairly close to the novels, but since then they have left out a lot of details that should have been left in.

I agree completely! The first two movies were very magical and true to the books. I have it on DVD as well, only because I had the other four movies and didn't want a gap in my collection. I have a feeling that I'll be disappointed at the new movie as well. Still I'm going to the cinema next week to see it. Hopefully it won't be too bad, but I have my hunches!
Thanks for your response!
