One of the things that Michael Jackson's death showed us is where to get the truth in the news. If you wanted the facts and the breaking news you did not pick up a copy of the New York Times or tune to CNN or even Fox News, no you logged on to a Web site TZM. This site was the first to report his death (confirmed), and his going to the hospital. The were the "source" that all the news outlets were quoting. They did it the old fashion way by developing sources and following up on leads. Unlike most "Respected Reporters" who are great at repeating sound bites and press releases. Is it any wonder that the major media is dying a slow death.

Well it is because real reporters like to confirm a story, news, gossip before oppening their big mouths vs A gossip web site, if the gossip website fails, all the have to do is type OOOPPS!!!! and how will a reporter look, hey, I am sorry for passing gossip as the real thing, mmm... yeah.. that looks real great on tv.
And quoting from the web site is fair game, they do not commit to owning the information just passing it along.d

Well I did not know that, I was under the impression everything was under water.
It was hard for me to watch the news without going crazy, I donated when I could and that's all I could do.
(it is hard to believe that that many people were on their own on such harsh conditions)

These gossip sites often break their news by breaking the law, violating people's privacy, etc. Just like the paparazzi who sneak onto people's property in violation of the law.
Gossip media sometimes get scoops before regular media do, but more often they are wrong or premature with their "news." Such sites trumpet their success when they beat the mainstream media to a story, but of course they don't publicize the many times they get things wrong, or speculation on developments that turn out to be wrong, etc.
Besides, the gossip press pretty much covers only celebrity news. I don't think CNN or the NYTimes have to worry about TMZ beating them to news about the economy, the Middle East, the G8 forums, etc.!
