How Old Does A Song Have To Be To Be "Classic Rock"?  |

|  Lots of people think "Classic Rock" is all 60's and 70's, with a little 80's thrown in.
I am of the opinion that there are MANY songs from the 90's that could be termed "classic" now.
Jane's Addiction, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden...I myself would consider many of these to be "classic" now. They have stood the test of time, and are still as popular and vital as when they came out many years ago...but some of my friends say they can't be "classic" because they aren't old enough...but when I try to pin them down on how old a song has to be, I can never get a definite answer from them.
So...what do you think? How old does music have to be before it is "Classic"?

To me 50s and the 60s are classic , I don't think 80s and 90s are as they are too modern.

| |  I was just having this same conversation the other day. The way you are thinking of it, I would agree that the bands you listed would be considered classic. However, I think there is some sort of number of years old they have to be to be considered classic. But I agree with you wish i knew hw old it had to be.

| |  Well, a car is considered a "classic" after 20 yrs, so maybe a song should, too then.
So a song that came out in 1990, should be considered a "classic" in 2010, provided of course that it is still as popular and well liked and has "stood the test of time".

| |  A Classic like a Classic Car is a car that is 15 years old or older. Most times the car is well kept in almost new condition.
To me a Classic Song is one that will be unique to stand the test of time. There are so many songs that are re-recorded that have been done time and time again and they are truly classics.

| |  HMmm dont know, Ive always thought about stuff being classic being at least 20 years old or older. Including movies, but hell I will hear music or see movies on AMC that are less then 20 years old and will be called classic, um what? I dont think so lol.
